HBITgame

in #games3 years ago (edited)

Two things at the outset:

  1. Last Christmas I itched to make a very, very simple NFT game. I stalled and scratched my head. Instead, I created HBIT.
  2. Recently, I pondered the idea of whether each Hive post could actually be considered an NFT in its own right. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Perhaps this simple "HBITgame" helps bridge the itch and the idea.

tldr;

  1. 100 or more HBIT as a prize.
  2. Cardholders have 1-in-4 chance to win.
  3. You can get a card with HBIT.
  4. Bitcoin's blockchain picks the random winner.

Simple, fair, fun.

This page will be edited/updated as we go along.

BTC block to choose the winner: TBD

This will be updated soon.

Basics of the HBITgame

The HBITgame is to be very simple: if you hold a card, then you have a chance to win.

  • There are four "cards" above. Each is its own Hive post (as its own NFT?). Each card is one entry in the game.
  • To play, you must buy/own one of the cards. The cards must be paid for in Hivebits (HBIT). Need HBIT or wonder what it is? Read about it here. (Hint: you can get HBIT right now, for free, by replying with a Hivebits command.)
  • Each card owner has a random 1-in-4 chance to win the game.
  • The winning card will receive all of the HBIT accumulated from the four card sales.
  • The minimum prize will be 100 HBIT.

How the winner is chosen

Hivebits is about Hive's blockchain and Bitcoin's ethos. So, the HBITgame will exist on the Hive blockchain and will use the Bitcoin chain to select a random winner. Here's how: a Bitcoin block number will be chosen and the hash for that block will be used. Bitcoin block hashes always start with a bunch of zeroes: 000000...followed by random numbers and letters. We're looking for a 1, 2, 3, or 4 to find the winning card. The first number (1, 2, 3, or 4) in the block hash after the zeroes will determine the winner. For instance, take BTC block 732464:

Source: BlockChair - BTC block 732464

The image is from https://blockchair.com/bitcoin/blocks, but any Bitcoin block explorer will work.

Okay, who won in the example above?

Above, we see lots of zeroes and then an 8. Since we're looking for a 1, 2, 3, or 4 only, the 8 doesn't help. Continuing to the right, we see 9 (no help), then an f (skip it), and a d, and 7, and an a, and a 6, and then finally a 4. In this case, card #4 would be the winner. Look at block 732465, card #3 would have won. In block 732466, card #2 would have won.

If there is no 1, 2, 3, or 4 in the hash, we'll wait for the next block, then use the same process until we get a winner.

Simple.

For the HBITgame here, I'll choose an upcoming Bitcoin block once all four cards have owners.

Get one of the cards to play

The four cards will be auctioned off, one at a time, beginning with Card 1.

  • To bid, simply go to the card's page and place a bid (in HBIT) as a comment like, "I bid 10 HBIT."
  • The auction will be open to accept bids for two days. We'll go by the UTC timestamp.
  • Then, the highest bidder will have 24 hours to send payment in HBIT to @crrdlx. Include in the memo: "Payment for HBITgame card #1" (or 2, 3, or 4). I will include the new owner's username and transaction URL on the card as an edit.
  • If payment is not made within the 24 hours, I'll open the chance to buy to the next highest bidder for 24 hours (in addition to the first higher bidder). Whoever pays first gets it. We'll follow this procedure until we have a sale.
  • After the card sale is finalized, we'll go to the next card and do the same.
  • When all four cards are sold, the total prize in HBIT will be tallied, and we'll move to the Bitcoin blockchain to determine the winner. Block number to-be-determined.

The prize

The prize will be the total amount of HBIT earned from the sales of the four entry cards.

Currently, I (@crrdlx) hold 280ish HBIT and am #5 on the richlist (not counting the source @hivebits account). I got them like everyone else...by mining or buying them. I will guarantee 100 HBIT as a prize from my personal HBIT stash:

  • If sales from the four cards do not reach 100 HBIT, I'll make up the difference to get the prize up to 100.
  • If sales of the four cards reaches or exceeds 100 HBIT, I'll keep my HBIT. The prize will simply be the total from the sale of the cards.

FYI: Currently, holding 100 HBIT would be enough to put you in the top 25 holders. That would make you an HBIT whale and earn you a whale badge.

A few notes

This HBITgame has two purposes:

  1. As something of a proof-of-concept that this could be done.
  2. To have a little fun (which is always a great use-case!).

Understand, I'm running this manually so there will be a little time delay at times. But, the point is to show that this can work and can be fun.

Any disputes, issues, or problems, I decide.
Consider this endeavor to be purely for fun and entertainment.

I find this a very interesting idea how to increase the price of HBIT.

I wish I'd seen this when the first card was up for sale.
