RE: 5 Forgotten Sega Dreamcast Exclusives

in #games8 years ago

Dreamcast had a wide variety of great games released for it. Personally it was Crazy Taxi that caused my desire to purchase and instead i won mine at work. It has the best version of Eco the Dolphin and games like Skys of Arcadia that held my attention. The extras that could be earned by using the memory card click mini games was great option but ran through a battery in about an hour of use got expensive.

The controllers were big and bulky but most comforrale of all the systems at the time.

What i found was 2 killers to the franchise. One was Microsoft. My feeling is they killed the system to try and get Sega rights. Second was when they found the simple mod options and boot disk options. Was way to easy to kill the purchase options and just download titles and keep playing game after game. I dont recommend getting a system and bootlegging the games if you can find them for purchase. But if its the option you have at least try purchasing if you liked the titles. Hopefully they bring this system back.

As modern hardware advances, I see the chances of Sega releasing some of the Dreamcast library in digital format. They already do this with some games for PC (though I believe these were Windows CE releases for the Dreamcast already so they are not emulated but more compiled for regular Windows).

Fans have been able to get decent speed and compatibility out of homegrown emulators in the recent years too so there is hope the Dreamcast can live again.
