Free on PS+ for PS4 RiME. This game I had little expectations going in. They don't seem to give out the best free games and when they do its normally outlived. So I walked into this one with nearly no expectations. I started the game and had to game comparisons come to head right away. First was Windwaker (Zelda) and the second was Journey.

Ok, so Windwaker and Journey it was. The game was basically a mash of both games in one. No fighting, no direction. Nothing but a semi open area and no clues to what to do and where to go. It was definitely a great cartoon look but with some beautiful background scenery. The soundtrack being ambient classical music of sorts or at least by style.

So what was the point of the game? Here's where it took the hour to play and figure out what it was. It is am adventure game but just walking through some areas figuring out puzzles. There was not fighting but lots of puzzles and figuring out what to do. There is a lot of perspective changes to see how to solve the harder puzzles as they come up. The puzzles can be anything from lights to getting to orbs and singing or even putting things in place and lining things up. They seem the same but change and some are easier than they apear and others not so much. They never lack an ability to figure out.

The whole time playing this I was constantly thinking this is the same game as Journey or even a sequel to it. I had to look it up. It is not. Even though there was a guy in the game that reminded me so much of the main character in journey it wasn't. I verified it. Even stepping into the second part of the game at this point is seemed to be a ripoff of the other game. At least it was super comparable. There are apparently multiple games out there that are the same style and constantly compared as ripoffs of eachother. These are all considered ICO ripoffs. Games on the list include ICO, Journey, ABZU and a few more. This list got bigger when you looked at other platforms like XBOX and even larger when you added PC games. I would hate to look at a list on STEAM to see the game list in full.

So when I said I would review this I have given the opinions and thoughts so far. The soundtrack is great. It is repetitive and ambient so you almost stop hearing it fairly quickly. It comes back and even has a climax when you finish or get to the end of the area or something big happens. The cutscenes come in occasionally. This are short animations as something is completed or you do something special. Some are better than others but nothing spectacular. They are just there. The graphics are not bad for a cartoon like feel. The sky is full of detail and some of the little things have more detail than needed but it never leaves you guessing what the terrain is. The controls of the game are nearly flawless. You get emenced in what you are doing you almost forget to look at all the available angles for that little glow to know what you are missing. It has a time laps system that lets you feel the days and nights as you are playing through the game. Its actually part of one of the puzzles. So it gets bright and dark at points but not black out that isn't easily recoverable from. And its part of the puzzles too.

So overall my opinion of the game is it that it is a great game for an adventure and puzzle game. Its Windwaker without fighting or just another version of Journey same but different. Its any platformer without powerups. Its a great game for the lovers of puzzle platformers. I definitely recommend this as a puzzle adventure to go play and burn one puzzle at a time or at least one area at a time. Do go enjoy this one and have some fun and tease your brain a bit.

So enjoy a little gameplay with short review and commentary during basically first time play.
