War Thunder vs. World of Tanks : what is better?

in #games7 years ago (edited)

Debates on what is better if World of Tanks or War Thunder both accompany the game as early as 2014 when the Russian Gaijin released a second section called Ground Forces to its flight simulator, making it a competitor to Belarusian Wargaming. Discussion WT vs. WoT most often implies that they all agree that games can not be compared because they have a different game concept. But I do not think so. That's why I decided to put the plus and minus of the two games beside me. Which one is better?

For clarity, we divided our ratings into five basic categories:

1 . Game concept
2 . Sound and music
3 . User interfaces
4 . Graphic
5 . Maps

1 . Game concept

The game concept is something that clearly distinguishes both games. While World of Tanks is an arcade in some ways, War Thunder: Ground Forces is approaching what the mainstream gaming community might call a simulator. Even if the actual fans of the tank simulators probably disagreed, the truth is that War Thunder has closer to the hardcore simulators.

This, of course, does not solve the question of what is better, whether an arcade or a simulation simulation. It's like trying to find out if banana or orange is better. War Thunder and World of Tanks are other games. Both are played with tanks, you both fight against humans. But where the World of Tanks is betting on a very positive simplicity, War Thunder puts it on the contrary. Both are for slightly different players and neither is bad. It would seem that the "Game Concept" duel can not have a winner. But he has.

War Thunder has one thing that World of Tanks is missing from the very essence: Aircraft.

The fact that you can fly your Junkers Ju-87 Stuka through the sky of the same battlefield on which a heavy tank battle takes place is a matter that the World of Tanks can not just conquer. Yes, you might argue that we are evaluating tanks, so we should not make decisions in the decision making, but you are wrong. War Thunder is built on a combination of aircraft and tanks. And whoever tried it must admit that it really has something in it. Although you can turn on separate air battles or separate tank battles, but players usually play a mode in which are planes and tanks together.

And it's not a fake tinsel, it's not just a joke for undecided. It's a really viable concept that really works. You really fight your IS-2 and your Stuka is spinning over your head and you feel its presence, you know that besides the enemies on the ground, you have to watch what's happening over you, because if you look for a bumper with a 37mm anti-tank twin , Approaching your heel at a speed of 300km / h, you have a much bigger problem than the Tiger shootout. For this reason, I give the first point for War Thunder.

2 . Sound and Music

We would say that sounds and music are not important in the game, but that's crap. It's just the sounds that make the basic atmosphere of the battle. Sure, stand in the thicket and wait for the last tank that comes to capture your base or head-to-head firing two heavy tanks in a narrow aisle, it has something in it, but it will not happen so often. Developers know it well, and therefore they are trying to make the atmosphere mushroom with music and effects.

While the effects of World of Tanks have grown massively over the years, music is still the same misery. Artificially created samples are not going to make anybody anymore, we did it somewhere in 1998. On the other hand, Gaiyin reached their own composers and the music was complemented by famous pieces by famous authors.

Not for nothing, the War Thunder soundtrack sells (sells it!) To iTunes, and has a fairly decent success.

3 . User inteface

The user interface, or UI, is a very specific part of the graphics that we removed from the overall graphical rendering of the two games. While in the battle you can have hundreds of tracks from the belts, beautiful grass animations or tank muddy to the cannon, in the garage when analyzing the parameters or in the menu does not help you much.

The War Thunder garage is a theme in itself. If you've been playing War Thunder for a long time, and you're already a witness to its beginnings, you can definitely say that Ganjin has done a lot of work, but despite that, the main screen is so strained, unstable and little optimized. You will not get much information from it and it's not intuitive. On the contrary, I appreciate the "X-ray" vision where you can see where the critical modules and crew are on all the tanks, and the "armor" vision is good enough to know how to tangle the tanks to achieve the best armor efficiency.

In my opinion, Wargaming made a mistake by introducing a new display of tank characteristics that is neither clear nor intuitive. But compared to War Thunder, World of Tanks is half a mile before War Thunder.

4 . Graphic

Whether it likes to the loyal fans of the World of Tanks or not, this point will be unambiguous, we all agree. What the War Thunder graphics often reads is somewhat "bulging". Unfortunately, although there is the possibility to set up an FX, the seeming "sloppiness" is associated with higher realism. Not every grass is green, not every tree has symmetrically set branches. Despite this small deficiency and despite the fact that the World of Tanks update 9.0 has done a great job in Wargaming, especially on HD models that look great, the rating is unambiguous.

For example, such a demolition of the environment. Did you ever go to War Thunder through a wooden cottage on the Kursk map? If so, you noticed how it fell apart on individual beams that, depending on the movement of your tank, either stayed on the ground or leaned on your machine or stayed there for a while. And if you went further, did you notice that there are still brick stoves inside the cottage, which can also start and fall apart on individual bricks?

Or were you ever riding a river? At the point where the water touches the ground you can find a several meters wide area of watter soaked dirt. When you go through it for the higher graphics settings, you print out beautiful tracks from the stripes. And it's not just textures left behind like World of Tanks, the surface is actually deformed in 3D.

There are also things like flying tanks (the owners of all machines with side armor panels know), the ability to add a 3D object to the tank, whether it be a guitar, a helmet, or a set of shrubs to be masked, crews that are in Dances to see directly, or mud that sticks to more and more on the progressive battle tank and which you can wash when you cross the river.

About what WoT is having problems with an engine that does not allow it much. Wargaming has been promising us for a long time, and it is postponing a destructive environment, yet still nothing.

Sure, the World of Tanks graphics are more "cartoon", the colors look pastel, pleasant, in War Thunder you can not see this. But everything else plays for the War Thunder, and it is absolutely unambiguous. That's why War Thunder gets another point.

5 . Maps

World of Tanks promises maps in HD and, as has been written above, their graphics are somewhat more "comic" than the relatively realistic colors in War Thunder; on the other hand, the 1 × 1 kilometer map can not be as good as a 32 × map 32 kilometers, and much more when you realize that the aircraft fly over you.

World of Tanks devotes a lot of space to the maps on the development team, the maps are one of the most common themes when it comes to criticism. By the way, you will not see the same thing in the War Thunder community. There the prevailing satisfaction prevails with maps. And when you first go through Prochorovka's World of Tanks and then Kursk in War Thunder, you'll find out why.

The scale of maps is related to the game concept that we evaluated at the beginning. On the other hand, Wargaming has not been telling us for years, "we have such small maps because we have such a game concept," they say, "we have such small maps as there are slow tanks and technical limitations." At the same time, such a T28, the legendary World of Tanks worm, is also in the War Thunder. And all the tanks are somewhat slower and heavier heavier.

But shooting a kilometer is a paratrooper. When you hit, a feeling of bliss spills over your body, exacerbated by the enemy's crew or the tower.

In short and well, as far as maps are concerned, War Thunder will definitely win.

World of Tanks - War Thunder 1:4

The winner is clear. Wargaming, as it is known, fell asleep on laurels, and from the once unstoppable pike of the video game industry, it became a rather lazy cat. Things move in a positive direction, but rather slowly. We did not evaluate a number of things, such as modifications, replay management, or community behavior. I did not evaluate a number of things, such as modification, replay management or community behavior, yet I tried to capture everything that was essential and, in particular, what really needed the game.

And what do you think you agree with our assessment? Do you miss something? Write, comment!

I agree with what you have said. War thunder is a lot more enjoyable. What wins it for me is you have more then 1 life, so you spend more time in battle.

Depends what game mode you play... if you playing AB, then you have like you say more lifes. But i dont like that mod. I play RB.. its more intensive and realistic.. same like SB.

Do you play SB much? Me and my community are mostly SB, some RB and I'd love to play with a fellow steemian!

Well im playing both. Mostly RB ground forces and SB air battles. :)

I'm a massive fan of war Thunder, been playing for over 3 years. While it is without doubt the better game here, I think its worth pointing out that War Thunder and World of Tanks are, IMHO, aimed at different audiences.

WoT is a lot bit easier to get into, full of options/choices etc, the actual gameplay is much easier to grasp. War Thunder's arcade mode is s similar experiance, but its Realistic Battles where I think WT rewards players with more tactical depth.

Its harder to get "good" in WT, but its a lot more rewarding because of this!

So good to see there's some War Thunder players on Steemit! I just joined both as a content creator coming from YouTube and as just someone searching for a better social network. Nice write up. I really feel like you hit the head on the nail.

The one thing I'd add to this is that the grind in War Thunder is going to be longer than that in World of Tanks. In World of Tanks, you can reach tier X with relative ease, but War Thunder its a bit more complicated. This is because you can't just research all of the tanks in the light tree and forget the others. Instead, WarThunder requires you to research up to 6 vehicles in each tier before proceeding. This means you can't just rush to get the Leopard, but rather have to also research the maus, SPAA, ferdinand, etc. A good and important thing to note about the game!
