Machine Zone failed Game of War

in #games8 years ago

Hello, I'm sure many of you have seen some of the advertisements for Game Of War featuring a scarcely clad Kate Upton.

Yep, I'd play for that.

Anyways, I had played game of war for several years and spent a well lets say around the amount of a smaller sized whale on this mobile app to say the least I was always one of the top 10 when I played on kills and power destroyed.

Why? Because it was addicting.
The packs - also known as in-app purchases, started out extremely small this meant you had to think about things tactically otherwise you're spending a couple thousand dollars to do almost nothing. Lets face it, not even whales want to waste money like that; so you start thinking and calculating -- Yes I did have spreadsheets and notebooks for tests I had performed showing how stats interacted with one another and the best possible way to crush an opponent.

I like numbers and would geek out over new releases, although at first it was minimal increases in packs so new players could catch up easier to old players. Which was alright at first, I mean a 24 hour speed up and 2k gold for 99.99 sucked so much, you have no idea when some of your training and buildings were 20-100 days. They started increasing their pack sizes though and having 75 days of speed ups, better cores - Temporary equipment that expired but gave you overpowered stats for a little bit. Sounds amazing right? It was.

So what went wrong?
In the course of a month in 2015, 75 days became 125, 150, 175, after 8 months it was 8,000-9,000 days not to mention a surge in the amount of resources to build and train troops surged from 400m to over 60 billion in some packs, but averaged close to 10 billion. Well alright Machine Zone wants more money to beat out their rival SuperCell which created Clash of Clans, understandable and I mean it benefits everyone, right? Wrong.

The Downfall:
Given that after a specific size within the game you became essentially unburnable - being burned meant you lost a battle inside your own empire. With the right gear, troop amount you could not be touched, and since this became possible for around 500 dollars at this point which was good for people who could not spend but it meant everyone could put up a defense only witnessed within the movie 300.

That being said combat became sparing, and offensive players grew bored. Complaints piled up towards Machine Zone that kill events - treasured cross kingdom fights or dominance were no longer fun.

Requirements for a response from Machine Zone:
A boycott lead by the emperor at that time Stayalive77 (basically a whale, he spent over 1 million on this app) had several hundred kingdoms boycotting pack purchases until MZ changed things. This hurt MZ's sales enough that they listened to the players and slowed down packs, and released new combat research to help offensive players play again. Research - is an innate one time purchase that costs a lot but provides a permanent stat boost. This made the game move around again.

ERRMUHGERD WE MOVIN AGAIN BOYZ!

Well within 2 weeks MZ boosted their sales again, and released a subsequent defensive tree research and added 9 small and mediocre offensive research inside of this. Wait you mean to mount a good offense you need a good defense, when the fuck did machine zone start playing chess!?

Yeah.. they didn't but they watched a cat video, and that makes it Gucci amirite?

Machine Zones losses grow:
With the continued releases despite players requests to slow down, it caused a relatively high exodus; losing approximately 30% of their daily income and about 20% of their player base due to their greed. Some of these players began playing Mobile Strike which is also ran by Machine Zone and has already started to see inflation, some quit in general such as myself. I quit about 9 months ago, 7 is when I realistically acknowledged I was done due to my distaste towards the greed that runs this company.

Ever see what happens when peter does this on family guy, congratulations on breaking yourself.

Game of War now:
I'm still in a lot of line group chats with people from GoW, I still give advice and help people who are still playing. Although I realized that within the last 40 days game of war has released 30 new releases, many of which cost several hundred dollars each.
They also inflated packs to the point that 25k days, 200b of every resource is a commonplace, Cores and regular gear are almost 3x their counterparts 1 year ago and more is on the way. Good luck to those who persist, and congratulations Machine Zone at killing what was great.

So in the end I stuck with playing League of Legends, PokémonGO as of late and trading crypto on poloniex.com, If you ever want some free advice regarding this game if you insist on playing ask away.
