Every time someone talks about innovations in the world of video games the name of this game is present. This is a title that many of you will remember, an adventure and action game designed for 256 megabit cartridge and was released in the year of 1998, was developed in Japan by Nintendo EAD and was available to be played on the Nintendo 64 console. This was the first game in the entire series of The Legend Of Zelda to use 3D graphics, and it was the fifth game in the Legend of Zelda series. A totally effective game that despite having been different graphically from previous installments of the franchise made us feel like we were in one of the first games in the series.

During the year 1995, Nintendo was focused on developing new hardware and software development platforms that would allow the creation of games in third dimension, an advance that would be taken to the maximum with the appearance of the Nintendo 64. After four years of development and delays The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time would see the light one November of 1998, and this one became one of the most successful games in the world of the videojuegos. The inclusion of cinematics made the amount of information that was given to tell the story within the game very bearable. This time, our protagonist is in a kind of Neverland, since Link lives in a magical forest at one end of Hyrule, where they live a kind of beings shaped like children, which can not grow or leave said place.

Link's nightmare

Link has a nightmare where he sees two figures on one horse fleeing from another and it is at that moment that our protagonist is awakened by Navi, a fairy who is at the service of the Deku tree, who is not only a very wise and ancient being but also He is the leader of the Kokiri, so Navi was sent to guide Link with Deku, who was cursed by the man our protagonist saw in his nightmare, Link offers to free him from his curse. The big tree tells the story of Hyrule, in which he tells that three divine beings came down from the heavens and created the world in which Link is, but before these beings left they would have left a divine gift, the Triforce, the unlimited power that would allow its bearer any desire, and this being the same piece that the evil man of Link's nightmare is also looking for.

The game does not focus on being like much of the games of its kind, in which the hero lives in his world until an unexpected event alters the peace in which he finds himself. The quietest moment that we will see in the game will be the scene in which Link is asleep, because from one moment to the next we will be sucked by the story, we will be given more information about the plot, the conflict will occur and we will quickly learn all kinds of movements, exploring, and enjoying the adventure. The moments in which we will have more tranquility will be in the exploration of the map. It should be noted that the game does a great job explaining the operation of the Nintendo 64 to familiarize ourselves with the game, making us in a matter of about 20 minutes and we have become accustomed to the controls.

The mechanics that allow Link to climb a ladder or jump from a drop without having to press a button was undoubtedly an interesting part of the development of the game, but when talking about mechanics we can not forget how interesting it is to use the automatic sight and the manual look. The perspective of the player changes to be in front of certain items, making it more accurate to aim to make use of the sensitivity of the stick in the control, however, the automatic sight is usually better to direct Link's attention to some enemy or object special by pressing the letter Z, which makes it easier to use remote attacks and the use of the sword, with which by pressing the A button we can make different dodging movements depending on where you move the control stick.

The Ocarina of Time

This is an Item we received from Princess Zelda when we found the three spiritual stones, this instrument allows us to interact directly with certain elements, when interpreting different melodies we can do dawn or dusk, make it rain, teleport to areas of the map or activate different events of the plot. Being in the Temple of Time and making use of the three spiritual stones we can access a hidden camera in which we will obtain the master sword, and by removing this sword from its pedestal our protagonist will travel seven years in the future, his body will be protected in the Sacred Kingdom, and the second part of our adventure will begin, in which Link is now an adult.

The Importance of Travel

A feature that differentiates this game from the previous installments, since in the previous games the player had to focus more on fulfilling objectives, finishing searches and fulfilling the prophecy exposed in the story, and in those previous deliveries could not exploit properly the visual factor of the game. In Ocarina Of Time, each area has a unique style and specific logic in each of them, such as The Temple of the Forest, which is a library, and the prison inside a volcano known as The Temple of Fire. Each region has fantastic elements and some of these places refer to real places, such as the Gerudo Valley, which contained great similarity with the cultures of the Middle East.

The enemies in the Game

Like any game in the franchise, Ocarina Of Time contained a good amount of enemies and bosses of temples, and the impression they create on the player was enhanced even more by using three-dimensional graphics. The challenge and creativity needed to beat the bosses remained in this installment of the game, where the fight with the bosses was quite a show, and showing that the developers were not afraid to maximize the capabilities of the Nintendo 64.

The game's music was written by Koji Kondo, original producer of the saga, who created rhythms and melodies that came in handy to highlight different feelings and cinematic themes of the game by taking advantage of the audio quality that the Nintendo 64 offered. Regarding the version for Nintendo 3DS, the graphics offered in this version of the game make it very attractive for players who decided to enjoy this, it is basically the same game only with better graphics and more detail, we can unlock Master Quest mode, a mode that was exclusive to Japan, and that tests the player's ability to overcome different levels and riddles.

To finish, The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time was as important for the fantasy and adventure genre as the Mario 64 in the platform genre, this game gives us a very good experience with every advance we make, a title that despite of not being perfect it managed to mark a before and after in the world of videogames, a game like no other in the saga. Without more to say, I hope you enjoyed this post.

Until next time!
