Nowadays everyone says that gaming is a sport. But it actually is?
Gaming can be considered a real sport because, like any other sport, requires strategy and skill. You also have to practice it a lot to become pro. Like in conventional sports you can play alone or as a part of a team. Lately the esports competitions started to get bigger and bigger and the prizes are huge. For example big gaming competitions like the Major League Gaming gathers a lot of pro gamers and people all over the world are interested in this kind of competitions. People started to like to watch electronic sports more than conventional sports. A big gaming tournament like MLG can attract 10 million viewers, a lot more than the NHL Finals for example. The prizes in gaming competitions are huge, almost as big as in soccer or other sports.
On the other hand, many people think that gaming is not a sport because the physical element is missing. Not only that gaming is not requiering physical exercise but spending a lot of time playing on the computer can make you fat and cause you many health problems. Even if gaming is not requiering physical exercise it's a fact that people are more interested in it than in any other sport.
What do you think? Is gaming a sport?
Absolutely! Watching the best in the world perform their skill in a competition is the absolute definition of sports. To add to your point more people watched the League of Legends championship than watched the NBA Finals. Esports is the next evolution of sports. Over 30 universities across the US are now offering scholarships to gaming athletes to compete in collegiate gaming leagues. I write specifically about Overwatch esports. I look forward to seeing more posts about esports like this. Thanks for posting!
See you around.
