A friend of mine does astrophotography (NINA and PixInsight mainly) and it's amazing how quick we can now process dozens of GB compared to the pain it was in the 2000's
He was stuck with his laptop (a nice i9 XPS) but he recently got this idea he wanted a desktop pc so he's buying a 7950x3d/64GB/4080 Super desktop PC.
On my end I never could justify the price of a good pc because I don't play AAA games, with the exception of fps like battlefiled where I will lower graphic settings to a minimum in any case.
The best games from the past decade are imo mostly 2D games so I never had the incentive to buy a better one (5600X/3060 12GB) but I've been watching unreal engine and blender for years, unfortunatly I don't have the time nor the motivation to get back into 3D and my current PC is not the best for it either.
Games like rimworld, dwarf fortress or ftl are under 300MB and they are amazing in their depth and breadth, old rpgs like fallout, settlers, etc. are better also games than 99% of the AAA games we get nowadays
Also shameless plug for a game I love: https://store.steampowered.com/app/257510/The_Talos_Principle/
I still haven't bought the second one and didn't see every ending in the first but this is the kind of studio that should get a random 200 million check, stanley parable also comes to mind.
Worms armageddon/liveparty/ terracore /wmd are also worth much more than what they earned and it's sad to see such studios falter while crap like candy crush brings billions every year.
