Well it's the start of the year and as such studios tend to go into a bit of downtime, the holidays are over and the biggest franchises have given their latest offerings, so what do we expect of 2018? well there's a fair few games that are already announced, as well as games that aren't announced, today we're going to go down some of the games i'm waiting for in 2018 and the games you should have on your radar for this year, keep in mind this is a subjective list so don't argue with me about personal choice!
Lets jump into the list, keep in mind that only number 3,2 and 1 are games that i'm saying should be on the top of your list for 2018, anyway lets go.
10. Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire
Pillars of Eternity burst onto the scene in 2015 with an amazing game that harkens back to the golden age of RPG's, originally being funded through kickstarter, the company, Obsidian Entertainment, their kickstarter for Pillars of Eternity went from a 1.1 million initial goal before ending up close to 4 million dollars, and it showed, Pillars of Eternity and its expansions are amazingly well created from the classic D&D style RPG along with some enjoyable graphics and amazing dialogue and story, Pillars of Eternity II is a game that should be on your radar for 2018.
9. Detroit: Become Human
Detroit: Become Human is an interesting idea that is coming out sometime this year, usually i'm not one for robotics or post modernism, but the trailer for DBH seemed rather expansive and has an interesting plot, in the future androids have become common place as essentially slaves, a renegade group has began to "Wake up" other androids into controlling their own destiny, it deals with Asimov's three laws of robotics and anytime they come into play you know it's going to be an interesting story.
8. Darksiders III
I was bit taken aback by Darksiders III announcement to not have a horsemen of war as the main character, rather we'll be playing as Fury, War's brother as she tracks down and defeats the literal embodiment of the seven deadly sins, after a pretty mediocre Darksiders 2, i'm hoping that Darksiders 3 can hit the right marks and if the trailer and gameplay trailers are anything to go by, it should do nicely.
7. State of Decay 2
It feels like forever since State of Decay 1 came out, a horribly underrated game that never really got the attention it deserved due to lets say....sub par graphics, but had amazing game play and an interesting story, State of Decay 2 gets some more modern graphics and skins and the gameplay looks just as tight as the first game, lets hope this doesn't get as criminally underrated as number 1.
6. Sea of Thieves
I'm just gonna say, Sea of Thieves looks fucking amazing and I want it now, from the studio that brought us banjo-kazooie, Sea of Thieves is a massive open world pirate simulator, with massive ship battles, underwater treasure hunts, caves, islands to plunder and non stop PvP in the open water, for anyone who played ArchAge, this is almost exactly the same as the ship aspects of the game, but way cooler, keep an eye on this one this year.
5. Hunt: Showdown
This is one i'm also very eager for, from Crytek, the creators of Crysis comes Hunt:Showdown, it's been a long time since we've had a game that is going to push PC's to their absolute breaking point in terms of graphics, but the game play also looks amazing, for anyone who played Evolve, this will feel familiar, however this also borrows from Tarkov and The Division, it's just going to be easier for you to watch the trailer to understand.
4. Call of Cthulhu
For anyone who is a fan of HP Lovecraft, you will already have this title on your radar, we've had Lovecraftian games come out before, but never one for the current generation that looked this amazing, i'm guessing this won't be for the faint of heart as the developers have said they're going for an authentic lovecraftian experience, which often means pure insanity and horror is going to be everywhere, check out the trailer for it below to understand.
3. Monster Hunter World
This is an interesting one, usually these type of games don't pop up on my radar, but this has because it looks amazing, Monster Hunter has a storied franchise and Monster Hunter World is seeking to expand on that, bringing with it massive open world environments, amazing combat and a co op environment that looks built for fun, unfortunately the game won't be released on PC til much later this year.
2. Agony
This game probably isn't on a lot of peoples radars, mainly because it's fucked, the game is a depiction of a helpless soul's journey through hell and all it entails, the trailer below will explain it better than I could, however this game is very high up on my list as it looks like it's going to be the definitive experience of the year in terms of sensory and visual stimulation much like DOOM was in 2016, i'll just let you watch the trailer and come to your own conclusions, but personally it looks amazing and I can't wait to get my hands on it!
1. Metro: Exodus
Man i'm so god damn excited about this game, it's only been a few years since I got into the Metro series but man am I a huge fan of it already, Metro Exodus was unveiled last year to huge acclaim, the story will once again follows Artyom the hero of the Metro, after a rumor surfaces of a train that is taking people to a new life outside the irradiated zone, this is the first Metro game to be set in winter and will feature a lot of open world exploration on the top of metro rather than inside it, either way the game looks phenomenal and will undoubtedly have an amazing story, this is my number one pick for 2018, so keep your eyes out for it!
Well that about raps it up for this article, keep in mind it is January and a lot of games may spring up on us without warning in the coming months, but hopefully with this list iv'e given you guys some games to look out for this year and enjoy them as much as i'm going to!
Monster Hunter World, Metro, State of Decay 2, all great looking games as are others. I think 2018 will be a good year to get some more games! Bring on the single player/co-op ones as online games sometimes are too toxic or annoying haha.
Yeah i need some singleplayer in my life man, been playing WAY to much multiplayer/coop in the past few years lol
good games. Are you playing games?
Nice list, I'm looking forward to a bunch of them. But most of all I'm looking forward for Kingdom Come: Deliverance. That, and a new PC to run it decently :D
Had a look into KCD, just doesn't grab me aye, might be because iv'e been burned by these games in the past but we'll see.
