Hello again Steemit. After the warm reception you gave to my series GAME SINS, I decided to make another post about a video I released back in February on one of this year's best games: Resident Evil 7. My next new video on Metal Gear Rising is coming in a few days, but until then, let me tell you about one of the most viewed videos on my channel.
Resident Evil is one of the few gaming franchises that has managed to successfully reinvent itself twice. The series started as a admittedly clunky, claustrophobic horror game about zombies, played from static camera angles and tank controls.
After several games using this formula, Capcom decided to go in a new direction. Resident Evil 4 was the first game to depart from series tradition. The game was a masterpiece in design that resonated with the entire industry, and popularized third person combat. Gone were the fixed camera angles and awkward shooting in favor of an over the shoulder approach with precise aiming.
As successful as this game was, the games that followed it: Resident Evil 5 & 6 failed to capture what made 4 so special. The series lost any semblance of survival horror and became and action game with horror elements and coop play. Fans reacted poorly and the reputation of the series tanked.
After 5 and 6 and numerous spin off games, Capcom announced Resident Evil 7. The first Resident Evil to be played from a first person perspective. Seemingly inspired by the success of recent horror games like Amnesia and Outlast.
Not only was the gameplay and perspective radically different from the other games, Capcom also ditched most of the previous story, opting for a mush smaller, and more down to earth tale about a family living in rural Louisiana that are taken over by a deranged bioweapon. Gone are most of the previous characters and reams of confusing backstory. You can play this game without knowing anything about the previous games.
The reception to Resident Evil 7 has been overwhelmingly popular despite early fan skepticism. Even though the game has major differences in design from the first Resident Evil, it has just enough of the old elements to remind you of it while bettering the formula.
Despite how good the game is, there is still plenty for me to sin in the video though. No game is without sin.
Please enjoy GAME SINS | Everything Wrong With Resident Evil 7.
Great as Always
Thanks code.
Resident Evil 4 was amazing but the originals still give me nightmares! I remember the first time I saw the snake in Resident Evil 1 I flipped out haha
Oh yeah, that thing. It was hard to take it series after the cutscene with the dying STARZ member right before it.
Yeah, resident evil was one of my favorite games growing up. I guess re5 was okay...and then re6 just lost it man. I'm still waiting on that re2 remake though. :)
I have high nostalgic hopes for that game. The remake of the first Resident Evil was a great example of how to do a remake.
