4 Tips to Climb in Ranked if your MMR is low (League of Legends)

in #gaming7 years ago

As a quick introduction to this post, i would like to state that i was unsure about what to do for my first post here in Steemit, eventually, i decided to provide with some friendly advice in something i have been gathering some significant experience, so here it is!

1.) Reduce the size of your champion pool.

If you wish to climb up the ranking ladder in League of Legends, and relatively fast, this is a must. You may either pick Champions with which you feel the most comfortable, or the most meta/easy to use. The more you center your gameplay around these champions, the more experienced and knowledgeable you will become regarding match-ups and macrogame strategies you can apply for each of the champions you decide to use.

2.) Don't be afraid of making necessary changes.

Each patch alters the way the game works, this a no-brainer, but truth is that despite any changes in the meta, most people fail to adapt to some of the biggest changes made, for which it is recommendable for you to apply changes to what is meta and make it work for you. More often than not, the difference between a Gold player and a Silver/Bronze is not the ability of the player, but how well a player is able to adapt to the meta and abuse of champions with a high winrate.

3.) Strategize and Shotcalling.

In most 'low-elo' games, it is not strange to see people playing with a rather lethargic mentality, which is why games in these levels tend to drag for up to 40 minutes or even more. They concentrate most of their efforts in farming or harassing the enemy for kills, which while it does provide your team with a lead it doesn't necessarily wins your game. You must analyze your team composition and work around your strenghts, preferrably punishing your enemy's mistakes instead of forcing "high risk, high reward" strategies, and most importantly, it will help if you have a clear idea of what it is you have to do on each state of the game, which of course varies depending on the champion you prefer to use; for instance, if you are a player keen to use champions with a high kill pressure since the early game, such as Zed or Fizz, your objective doesn't necessarily must be fixated on your lane, for your opponent will most likely attempt to freeze and wait for a gank, you can punish them for this by pushing the lane and then roam to a side lane with your Jungler.

4.) Pick Brand Support.

This one comes from my very own personal experience, a pick that ended my defeat streak and helped me recover my elo. The perks of having a Brand support in your team are vast, and, at least in the elo i am currently placed (Platinum/Gold), his relevance in the game remains significant throughout all stages of the game. In early he provides a great deal of harass and kill pressure, enough so to deprive the enemy ADC of CS, while also able to provide some peel with his W/E + Q Combo. And ultimately, his late game damage can easily turn teamfights in your favor.

After losing 3 promotions series to Platinum IV, plus the new changes made in that patch regarding AP items, i was going through a wild losing streak, it got to the point where i was demoted to Gold, i was becoming desesperate, i needed to change something in what i was doing and quick!

Introducing Brand, my fiery key to Victory and the results were immediate. It is worth noting that at this point my MMR was so low that i was getting 13 League Points per victory, while losing 21 per defeat, which were quite the discouraging circumstances.

But i persevered!

Here you can appreciate my fall from grace and my subsequent rise. This occurred in Patch 8.4, but with no mayor changes made on Brand or the items from his core build, i'd dare to say you can still bet your money on this horse.

As a closing note, here it is my recommended masteries and build path for Brand Support:
