Knight Estate: Proving a Mobile Game Can Be Truly Great

in #gaming7 days ago

I Never Thought I’d Write This

Let’s be honest, blogs about mobile games are rare. And as a developer, I never thought I’d be writing one. But here we are. This isn’t just about the game I’m building, though. It’s about you. It’s about us. Because, like many of you reading this, I didn’t start as a coding prodigy or a game development veteran. In fact, I failed most of the programming courses I took. Less than a year ago, I knew next to nothing about coding. But I decided to teach myself, and that changed everything.

Who Am I?

My name is Dom, and for the past five years, I’ve been chasing a dream: to create games. I’ve always been able to create art, but coding? That felt like an insurmountable mountain. I held myself back because of it. The "Before" screenshot you see below? It’s not even a game, it’s just images I slapped together in Photoshop. If I could’ve made games in Photoshop, trust me, I’d have done it a decade ago.

Why Should You Care About Another Mobile Game?

So, why am I telling you this? And why should you care about Knight Estate, a mobile game in a market that’s often criticized for being saturated with cash grabs? Because this isn’t just another game. It’s a passion project born out of love for games like Crusader Kings 3 and inspired by the depth of Manor Lords. It’s a game where you step into the boots of a medieval knight, ruling your realm, managing wealth, and living on the edge, where every war could be your last.

The Mobile Gaming Problem

Let’s address the elephant in the room: mobile games have a bad reputation. And honestly, it’s not entirely undeserved. Too many studios, big and small, treat mobile gaming as a “finished” industry, a place to reskin existing games or churn out low-effort titles designed solely to make money. Take Age of Empires, for example. Instead of creating a true mobile adaptation of their legendary franchise, they reskinned a Chinese game. It’s disappointing, to say the least.

It Doesn’t Have to Be This Way

Look at eFootball. It’s one of the highest-grossing mobile games, not just because it’s designed to be addictive, but because it focuses on delivering quality gameplay. The only real difference between its mobile and PC versions? Mostly graphics. Let’s at least give them kudos for that.

The Road Ahead

Knight Estate is far from finished. I’ve got about a year, maybe less, to turn it into the masterpiece I envision. And I’m not asking for your money. I’m asking for your trust. If you value a good game, if you believe in the potential of mobile gaming to be more than just a cash grab, then join me on this journey.
