Timeline of Computer History
Talking about the computers history in the 70s
I chose these years because it went the period where technology advanced with more intensity. During that years, many devices were born, and new things were saw by people, things that allowed the advance of the world like we know today.
Everything started when the first 16 bit computer appeared, that triggered a series of fundamental situations in the story. I don't want to say that before the 70s there were no computers. Yeah! they existed but they were not on the table as we see them today. The computers in the 60s were very large, and they were the size of a building. When they were on, the lights of the cities failed.
At this time, nobody knew what happening, so it was not important. One of these giant computers was called ENIAC-1, and it was on for a short time, because it was damaged very fast. But not only the computers improved, also the operating systems and the Internet. In the case of the Operating System called UNICS (Acronym of Uniplexed Information and Computing System) changed the name, to what is known as UNIX, father of Linux.
Internet was born in these time, but not as we know it, it was called ARPANET and this was a project of the military network of the United States.
Timeline of Computer History in the 70s
1970
In the 1970 year, first memory was made, that memory had a capacity of 1024 bits (1 kbit). Currently a computer must have a minimum of 4 Gb in RAM, otherwise the operation is bad.
Also, in that same year appears Pascal, which is one of the first programming language, it was to develop commercial and scientific applications, and also it was used to teach to college students.
1971
For the 1971, Hewlett-Packard introduced the HP-35, it is distinguished itself from its competitors by its ability of logarithmic and trigonometric functions. The HP-35 helped HP become one of the most dominant companies in the handheld calculator market for more than two decades. In this year, Ray Tomlinsons created the first program to send E-Mail, too. The symbol "@" is used for first time in computing.
For Intel, this year it was productive, because they created the first microprocessor, called Intel 4004. But the most important thing this year is the sale of the Kenback-1, the device considered the first personal computer. this equipment only had from lights, which will be configured to turn on and off.
1972
1972 year is important for the gamers, this year appeared Pong, it was a version of Ping Pong electronic. Also, C Programming Language is released, by Dennis Ritchie and his team, based on the language BCPL ( Basic Combined Programming Language). Intel 8008 Processor is sold and the 5 1/4 disks appear.
1973
This year is for Internet, because 1973 inventing the Internet. The need of the connected successfully several computers created the first networks, but this networks are limited, Internet will break this concept, it is created the network of networks. The TCP Protocol (Acronym of Transitions Control Protocol) was introduced and this protocol is the life of the Internet. It is who makes the magic of the connection.
1974
Xerox Parc Alto is introduced to the computer market. This computer was based on a graphical user interface using windows, icon, mouse and it used a network to connect with other devices. The Steve Jobs's inspiration for Lisa and Macintosh computers came from the Xerox Alto.
1975
This year is the Microsoft Corporation, because is the introduction of the Altair 8800 for the popular Electronics magazine. It is the first personal microcomputer recognized. For Bill Gates and Paul Allen, this was the opportunity for licensed their Basic Programming Language, it was created for Altair 8800.
1976
Apple's history started in this year with the computer called Apple-1. Designed by Steve Wozmak, and marketed by his friend Steve Jops, is a single-board computer for hobbyists. Of all that was created one company called Apple Computer, Inc. This year, also, Intel introduce the new microprocessor with the name Intel 8080, it started the x86 family, They still exists in Pentium, Celerom and Centrino processors.
1977
Apple introduced the first computer sold on a large scale. Millions of Apple IIs were sold between 1977 and 1993, making it one of the longest-lived lines of personal computers. Apple gave away thousands of Apple IIs to schools; giving a new generation their first access to computing.
In this time, The Atari Video Computer System is introduced. The best toy of the era. It is the most popular video game of all time.
1978
In this year, the first popular word processing system was created, its name Word Star. It is originally running on the CP/M Operating System and later on DOS and Windows.
1979
Visicalc is developed. This program that turned the personal computer into a business machine. Initially developed for the Apple II. It is the first spreadsheet of the story.
ah man! We loved this post over at ADSACTLY, but I can't seem to find you in our discord server. This was a definite contender for Post of the Day!
