Ueno Park, in Tokyo, Japan, has a museum. Though I’ve been to museums before, this was the first time I’d ever been able to fully appreciate what I was looking at.
It’s not until you develop a specific skill, a discipline, and strive for excellent in that discipline, that you really begin to appreciate the hard work done by others in the pursuit of their own excellence. I’d been to museums all over the place, time and time again, but always just stumbled through, just looking. This time, in Tokyo, I began to understand what I was actually seeing.
The man who can craft a thing, so exceptionally well, that hundreds of years later it’s on display in the national capital; that man is a master of his craft. I’ve only begun to develop my skill, practice my discipline, and dabble in my craft, but I certainly do hope that the work I some day do, will be worthy of preservation for others to enjoy long after my time.
For myself and my team, ‘Frenemies’ is the first step on that journey of 1000 miles.
