A tease for a potential Spyro announcement makes its way via a peculiar purple egg. The story comes from IGN, where editor Jonathan Dornbush received a package containing a purple egg and a note. The note reads, "Something's about to hatch - Falcon McBob", who IGN discovered was the official yet unverified Spyro twitter account. While not your typical egg this Easter, the large, scaled egg bears a close resemblance to Spyro's dragon design. As IGN first reported it on April 2nd, readers are smart to be skeptical. However, Gamers Classified have done some digging to determine whether or not this was a belated April Fool's prank.
Rumour or Teaser?
The possibility of an April Fool's joke getting delayed in the mail is not out of the question. However, a Spyro announcement is long overdue. Back in February, Kotaku reported that a remastered Spyro Trilogy, in the same vain as the Crash N'Sane Trilogy, was coming in 2018. They heard from multiple sources that it would contain new assets, animations, cinematics, gameplay tweaks and possibly even cut content. These rumours make sense, both with the success of the Crash Bandicoot N'Sane Trilogy and Spyro celebrating his 20th anniversary in September. Kotaku also report that Vicarious Visions, the studio who made the N'Sane trilogy, is leading the project.
Another key part of this story is the mysterious Falcon McBob. While this is an unverified twitter account, all signs point to it being Activision. Firstly, the Twitter handle is @SpyroTheDragon, a hard name for an unofficial user to get. Secondly, Activision has recently launched a new voice over project with the working name "Falcon". While this is a more tenuous link, if "Falcon" was a Spyro voice acting project, Activision would use this same name as a placeholder for the pre-announcement twitter. Lastly, twitter user @JumpButtonCB discovered that the account is protected under Activision, with an Activision recovery email address.
As the original Spyro Trilogy for PlayStation was wildly successful, Activision are smart to remaster them for PlayStation 4. What do you think of the tease? Is it worth the hype or just wishful thinking? What other classic games would you like to see remastered? Let us know in the comments below and for more updates stay tuned to Gamers Classified.
I am all over this!
Not too fast! Its a rumor but exciting times!
I wonder how much harder the jumps will be compared to the originals.
It certainly would be interesting. So little is known about it at the moment so its hard to say right now haha
Let the rumor mills start churning, it's time to prep the hype train!
No doubt about it!
That would be pretty cool, I personally didn't enjoy Spyro as much. Maybe my girlfriend did, I just know Crash Bandicoot we both loved and they got that out.
I'd have to agree but I did park a decent amount of hours on Spyro when I was young haha
