5 Video Games Hoaxes I Almost Fell For

"You've met with a terrible fate, haven't you?"

-Happy Mask Salesman

I believe you've heard about these before, or are you the one who created all these stuff? The following list are the first amusing hoax I ever heard about video games. I know there is a lot more hoaxes like these on the internet, like reviving Aerith, naked Lara Croft, etc. But these 5 were the first. I don't know if right now someone really make some of them as a mod or something.

Big Foot in GTA: San Andreas

One of the most popular myth in video games. They say if you wander around in GTA: San Andreas' country side such as Mount Chilliad and Shady Cabin, you will get to see the Big Foot. This has been a trending topic among the internet rumor discussions since the game released, and appearently until now there are still people who tried to convince other that this is 100% Rocktar's easter egg.

Herobrine

Want some ghost story? Here's one. The beautiful boxes world is haunted by a ghost called Herobrine, who said to be the dead brother of the game's creator. Herobrine appear to be the same as the player's character, but with white eyes. Herobrine love to create random constructions such as sand pyramids and long tunnels, he also love to cut all the leaves off the trees. And he also.. Another internet hoax.

Polybius

This internet urban legend is about a secret experiment ran by the US government. Back in 80s, the Men In Black got another job besides dealing with aliens. They created an arcade game called Polybius that can cause health problems, seizures, amnesia, black out, horrific nightmares, even suicidal tendencies. These Men In Black would periodically come to the arcades to collect the data from the machines. Yeah I'm pretty sure I'll get a horrific nightmares for buying this.

The Curse of Majora's Mask

There were some people on the internet that tried to pull everyone's leg by using one of creepypasta story, and telling other people that it is true.
Once upon a time, there was a gamer who bought The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask from some old man he met by the street. When he played the game at home he found a save file that belongs to the previous owner called Ben, who according to this fairy tale, has died by drowning. So this new owner deleted the old save file and start a new game only to die (in game) spontaneously and see the "You've met with a terrible fate, haven't you?" appear.

Lavender Town

Known as the Lavender Town Syndrome, The Lavender Town Conspiracy, The Lavender Town Tone, The Lavender Town Suicides, was the creepy hoax that keep popping up on the internet about children mass suicide in Japan caused by Pokémon Red and Green. Everytime a (kid) player arrive in Lavender Town and hear the Lavender Town music theme, the children would then kill themselves.

I love the fact that there are some gaming conspiracy theories and hoaxed around. It's always funny to see people that are posting possible leads for finding the San Andreas bigfoot.

Anyway, the Majora's Mask Ben "hoax" is really more of a fanfiction than hoax. You can actually read to original story here. It's a pretty cool read if you're into that kind of creepy stuff :)

Oh you are right, I better edit it. When I first read about it there wasn't any mention about a crepypasta fanfiction. Sometimes later I was told that it was just a hoax people keep making up since long time ago, that's why I didn't do anymore search on the internet about it. How rude to use other's fanfiction as an internet bs haha.

I like any kind of stories, including creepy story like that. Sorry for making a false information about someone else's writings, and thanks for letting me know

Don't worry about it! I wasn't trying to call you out for being wrong, I was just trying to add some more information to your post ;) Sorry if I made you feel like you got called out!

I remember reading the Ben story so many years ago, and found it pretty cool. It's a nice story, but a bit too far fetched to sound plausible in my opinion.

Thanks for your information, I really appreciate it you know. This is why Steemit need to get a medal for being exist.

I haven't finished it, I think I should read it to the end if it really is cool. In need of some daily dose of cool story right now

You've been UpVoted via the UpVote Experiment 002 Bot. Depending on my VP & the price of STEEM you should get a $.01-$.03 for your trouble.
Read more about this experiment here.

Thank You - @blueorgy

Did you here the one about NES Super Mario Bros. 2 has a secret ending were the princess is naked from the waste up? I use top play the game trying to beat it and find the special ending, but never found her. I hear there's a lot of fantasy weird endings like that which don't actually exist. I think the one about bigfoot in San Andeas GTA is pretty good though, lol.

I didn't know about that one. It's funny how these people tried their best to pull everyone's leg, lol. They really had a good time laughing behind their monitor.

Earthbound 64. I was so ready to preorder. It was fake...

Lol. I didn't know about that one. That's the worst of all

Let me tell you. It was terrible haha I love that series.

I made a Bukkit Minecraft server a long time ago and I had a disguise plug in that let's me disguise as any character or mob in the game. I disguised myself as Herobrine and scared a random guy who joined my server. It was hysterical.

Your post gave me some crazy nostalgia.

So that's how the myth getting bigger hahaha.
My best Minecraft memory would be when I ruined my friend's dungeon that he work so hard to made. I ruined it by, for an unknown reason, dig an incredibly long straight tunnel that breaks the maze walls.

Damn I feel so bad lmao
