Introduction

What's up guys, my name's Ggt. I enjoy playing video games and reading up on them. I also like to write about them. Specifically about my favorite game, League of Legends. That's what this post is all about today, a written guide going over one of my favorite characters in League of Legends, Jhin. But before getting into any of that, I'd like to talk about and explain what League of Legends is a little bit more.

"League of Legends is a fast-paced, competitive online game that blends the speed and intensity of an RTS with RPG elements. Two teams of powerful champions, each with a unique design and playstyle, battle head-to-head across multiple battlefields and game modes." A quote taken directly from the League of Legends website, perfectly summing up the game for the rest of us. I couldn't have said it any better myself!

In this post we'll be going over each of the three categories in the order presented below from top to bottom;

  • The character's lore and place in League of Legends' vast universe. This will be presented in a short summary of his backstory.

  • The character's in-game mechanics and abilities. I'll also be including tips on how each ability should be used to maximize effectiveness.

  • My personal thoughts on the champion and why he's one of my favorites!

The Virtuoso,

an out-of-place name to be given to a psychopath guilty of murdering hundreds in crude and deformed ways. How can someone so evil be seen as someone of great artistic abilities? Killing isn't an art, not to most of us at least. But that's not how this psychopath sees it.

Not much is known about Jhin's backstory. Not much is known about the man behind the mask at all besides his full name, Khada Jhin. He's presumed to have lived a rather easy upbringing in Ionia's middle-to-upper class. While doing so he picked up and learned many arts including dance, a vast multitude of instruments, painting and his personal favorite, theater. Acting was without a doubt one of Khada's passions. Once of working age he even decided to make his profession out of it by becoming a stagehand in Zhyun's (A province located in the southern lands of Ioania) travelling theaters.

But Khada would soon find out that acting wasn't his only passion. He found love in something others feared, Khada became addicted to killing.

"Art requires a certain, cruelty..." ~Khada Jhin

Khada would soon take on his alternate persona, a masked killer simply known as 'the Golden Demon.' He'd roam Zhyun, the southern province of Ionia and murder at complete random. No child, woman or man was safe. Word quickly spread and soon all in Ionia knew of the terrifying 'Golden Demon.'

Local authorities tried catching the 'demon' but were always a second too late. Instead of the killer they'd only find the twisted and deformed bodies of his victims cast out before them in gruesome scenes of what Khada saw as art. What he saw as beautiful and lovely, others saw as wretched and horrifying. It wasn't uncommon for those who stumbled across the 'demon's' murder scenes to regurgitate what they had last eaten.

After a years of no stop to the killings, the council in charge of leading Ionia had had enough. They sent forth trained and disciplined Ionian soldiers in an attempt to catch the 'Golden Demon.' Out of the many dozen soldiers they sent out, only a handful returned. When asked how they were defeated they could only simply reply with this; "He was always ten steps ahead of us."

"In carnage I will bloom, like a flower does in the dawn." ~Khada Jhin

The 'Golden Demon's' reign eventually came to an end. The council of Ionia after having their soldiers defeated sent forth two of their best ninja, a pair of young brothers, Shen and Zed. Though both were scarred and their lives permanently changed by the 'Golden Demon,' they'd in the end finally catch him and unmask his true identity. One of the brothers, Zed, was furious that a mere stagehand got away with what he did for so long. He tried to kill Khada, but the other brother Shen alongside their master stopped him. Khada was to be locked away in one Ionia's prison-temples watched over by vigilant warrior-monks whom acted as guards in these strange isolated prisons.

Throughout the many years in captivity, the monks were left baffled by the type of man Khada was. They found him to be very polite and respectful to all, despite his circumstance. They also were amazed by Khada's advanced abilities in his many art forms. How could such a talented and respectful individual be capable of committing so many heinous acts of murder?

The monks never got to find out. The war nation of Noxus had landed it's fleet on the shores of Ionia bringing with it a massive army of scale never-seen before in Ionia. War had come to Ionia, and Ionia was not prepared. After back to back losses, the council of Ionia turned towards their prisons for help. The prisoners were offered their freedom in exchange for their service in fighting off the Noxian invaders. Khada accepted the offer.

And once again was Khada Jhin able to follow his true passion, this time under more 'noble' circumstances. The Noxians to this day still tell the stories, the legends of 'the Golden Demon.'

In-game mechanics and abilties

Jhin is classified as a ranged marksman dealing mainly attack damage. He's also classified as a carry, which means he's more effective later on in each game. Jhin mainly specializes in catching and picking off his enemies with precise long-ranged attacks. His kit is filled with long-ranged abilties and traps.

Whisper

Whisper is Jhin's unique passive ability that turns him into a rare type of champion that uses up ammunition with each auto-attack. Jhin can auto-attack up to four times before having to take a short period of time to reload. Whisper also makes it so Jhin's attack-speed is set in place, staying the same throughout the game despite itemization. Any attack-speed stat added onto Jhin is instead converted into extra damage. Jhin's critical strikes also do 10% less damage but grant Jhin a short burst of extra movement speed as compensation. The final part of Jhin's unique passive is his fourth auto-attack. Every four auto-attacks, Jhin is guaranteed a critical strike that does extra damage scaling with the enemies' missing health. Less health, more damage!

Whisper is what makes Jhin such a unique champion. It also makes him very difficult to learn. You need to choose wisely when auto-attacking because you only have four shots before having to reload. You can move while reloading but can't fight back, which leaves you vulnerable. I suggest picking your shots carefully and taking advantage of the critical-strike movement speed burst to position yourself away from enemies between shots. This will make it harder for your enemies to get close enough to take you down.

Dancing Grenade

Dancing Grenade is Jhin's 'Q' ability. It's a point and click lock-on ability that when activated launches forth a cannister that bounces between nearby targets up to four times dealing physical damage to each target. Each time the cannister kills a target the next bounce will do extra damage.

This ability is pretty simple to use. I suggest if applicable bouncing it off a few low-health minions and onto a target to increase damage output. You can also use this ability between shots or whenever Jhin is reloading to continue to dish out damage.

aaa.png

Deadly Flourish

Deadly Flourish is Jhin's 'W' ability. When activated it fires forth a narrow but long-ranged shot that deals damage to enemy champions. Enemy champions that have been recently damaged by Jhin, damaged by his allies or caught in one of his traps are also rooted in place for a short amount of time on top of the damage.

Use this ability to lockdown enemies for your allies or yourself. It can also be used to harass enemies from far away or used to buy time for a quick escape whenever being chased. The damage is ok, but the root is what really makes it stand out.

aaa.png

Captive Audience

Captive Audience is Jhin's 'E' ability. When activated Jhin lays down a trap that when stepped on by an enemy slows them and after a few seconds explodes dealing AOE damage. The trap lasts for two minutes when placed and up to two traps can be carried at a time by Jhin. This ability also makes it so whenever an enemy is killed by Jhin, the trap's effects is automatically activated from under them.

I suggest using this ability as a ward. They can also be placed down in team-fights to help deal extra damage and slow down advancing enemies.

aaa.png

Curtain Call

Curtain Call is Jhin's 'R' and ultimate ability. When activated Jhin goes into sniper form allowing him up to four long-ranged shots in front of him that deal heavy damage. The less health enemy targets have the more damage each shot deals. The fourth shot critically strikes. This ability should be used to either secure fleeing targets or used during key fights in the game (EX: Objective fights).

My thoughts on Jhin

Jhin is easily one of my top three favorite marksmen in the game. He's definitely the most unique and different marksman in the game right now. But being different also comes with a whole new set of challenges. Jhin is a very difficult champion to learn and play. He takes both time and practice to get use to. I myself have dumped at least 20+ hours into playing Jhin and still have so much more to learn. Practice makes perfect, and once you're perfect at Jhin you're a perfect marksman for your team.

Jhin in the current 8.14 patch is hands-down the strongest ADC in the game. He deals so much damage and can easily out-trade damage with any opponent in-lane. That fourth shot on Jhin's auto-attack hurts, especially later on in the game when you have most your items built. Rapidfire cannon and Stormrazor are a brutal item-combo on Jhin, definitely try it out.

Jhin's not only good, but he's also fun to play. I guess that's what makes him one of my favorite picks right now in League. If I had to rate him out of all the other marksmen, he'd hands down be 9/10. If only he were easier to learn!

Bonus

Listen and watch Jhin's loading screen animation from when he was first released two years back. The way they incorporate the sounds of a gun loading, cocking back, firing and so on into the soundtrack is nuts!

Very interesting. I didn't realize Riot Games put so much effort into their character's back stories. Especially since it seems like there's so many of them. I'd definitely read a novel based on the universe if it existed!

To an LOL layman such as myself the abilities feel similar to how abilities work in games like Diablo 3. Which I'm sure is an over simplification but it seems fun!

I may have to actually check it out for myself some day. 🤓
