Game Freak announced their newest titles to the series: Pokemon Sword And Shield. While not the first games to be released on home consoles, the games will be the first time the next generation will be going to the home console. I still didn't got any of the Let's Go games but I do know that the games will be more like the main games instead of just taking many features from the Let's Go remakes (which might upset some of the fans especially the removal of encountering the Pokemon themselves instead of random encounters.)
The gym leaders have made their return to the series since Sun and Moon as we can see in the trailer that a large dome have an emblem that looks like a leaf. (could it be a grass type gym?)
It might belong to a character which I'll explain later so for now, let's talk about the region itself.
Galar is the name for this region and it appears to be heavily inspired by Great Britain. The region is shown to have a variety of different environment such as an open field, a forest, an industrial town, a snow route, a mining cave, and probably many others too.
The best part about this region is that how the whole place has a complete British feel to it especially the fact of how the series is known for making sure the region they presented have that feels in order to let the fans know what kind of area they're currently on which includes the Kalos region which was based on France and Alola which was Hawaii. These two seemed to be greatly presented the most so far because they not only mention them but made the fans know through presentation of the whole environment seen in trailers. Sword and Shield is definitely the most so far since so far, no mention from anyone on Game Freak if the region is truly based on the UK and the landscape makes it very likely.
Even the characters themselves all have very British looks to them. The protagonists appear to be wearing fashion that are associated with the UK culture and both the youngster (?) and the Lass (?) all look very much like schoolchildren. These are the only characters we see so far (Yes, there's another character but I'll get to him later).
The Pokemon from the previous generations are back in this game. Like the older titles, a few veteran Pokemon are probably going to appear until the end of the story due to being way too many to count. The current Pokemon that are going to appear are: Pikachu, Minccino, Wishiwashi, Grubbin, Hoothoot, Zweilous, Flygon, Braviary, Wailmer, Meowstic, Lucario, Tyranitar and Munchlax.
There's no further info on what the battle layout might look like. My guess is that it'll might be familiar to the Let's Go games but due to the removed features that I mention earlier, I think it'll be something different.
Going back to the environments again, I really like the serenity of each area and are given more details compared to the older games such as the cave seen from the trailer have looks very much like a mining cave which have some tools, mine tracks, and set of lights. I just hope that each places you visit have a unique component to go along with them depending on what kind of place you visited. Most of areas from the previous games tend to be a little familiar to others and I wanted to have areas that have some sections of whatever they suppose to represent rather than be more like similarities to one of the other.
If I were to choose my favorites, it would be the mining cave, the industrial town, and a snowing town square that looked quite beautiful. Wait hold on, is that what looks like a gym in the background?
It sure looks like it so maybe the town has a gym or is it some kind of an important building? If it is, it'll probably be an ice type gym not because of the oblivious surroundings but because how the symbol could look like a snowflake or a piece of ice if you look closely. Speaking of gyms...
Near the end of the trailer, we can see a person walking into a stadium of some kind. He appears to be a (European) Football player and possibly a gym leader by the looks of it. The gym that has the leaf emblem might be his gym so that mean he might uses grass Pokemon. However, the trailer features a battle between a Lucairo and Tyrantiar taking place in a Football field; neither of which are grass types so maybe the dome could function like the Battle Tower and the guy could be facility master you battle after beating all 19 trainers. There's no single info on this person other than just being there so let's just wait and see.
And finally let's go to the starters:
For the grass type, we have a Grookey, a monkey-like Pokemon. For the fire type, we have Scorbunny, a hare-like Pokemon. For the water type, we have Sobble, a salamander-like Pokemon. All these starters look too good for words; I especially love Scorbunny because an idea of a fire rabbit Pokemon sounds pretty awesome to me so this one will definitely be my starter Pokemon. Grookey looks nice too but we already have a grass monkey back in Black and White so it just doesn't look that special. Sobble looks adorable and it seems to have tons of fan already because of how cute it looks; I can see lots of people choosing this little critter already. Let me know if there's a favorite already at the comments.
That's pretty much all my thoughts on this brand-new game. However, the thing we're seemed to be missing is the legendary mascots that didn't appear in the trailer. So where could they be? Does this image explains it all?
There appears to a marking of some kind of creature on the fields. Is this one of the mascots or is it another legendary? or perhaps some legendary hero of some kind? Only time may tell...
