Well, I'm only familiar with Florida, and it is much warmer in Florida than the more Northern states I suspect. But all those tropical storms that hit Florida move Northwards and create very windy conditions for the East coast. The trees at the coast of Newfoundland are all stunted in growth, gnarly and leaning landwards. Here on the West coast, our trees are tall and stately. The weather is much milder, without the extremes experienced on the East coast. There are villages in Newfoundland that still don't have addresses on the houses! I found that shocking and felt as if I had gone back in time by 100 years! Everyone knows everyone else and land is passed down through the generations without any formal land registry. Only now, any sales that occur are registered, so they are catching up in that regard. The people are super friendly but some are very difficult to understand because they have their own slang on the English language.

Very interesting... How ironic a name for a place--Newfoundland--that is so antiquated! Thanks for sharing that. I am familiar with FL, too--its name, "The Sunshine State" is no exaggeration lol. It is quite beautiful, in a way; though, I thoroughly enjoy a good cool fall breeze and everything that comes along with it...

When the first European explorers crossed the Atlantic and landed in Newfoundland, that was exactly what it was... a new found land. Of course the natives were already here, but you know those Europeans... take take take! I found it, so now it's mine! The natives were regarded as savages and hardly human. No better than the animals they hunted for food and pelts. Basically the same attitude as those who stole African people and sold them as slaves. A very brutal time in history.
