Assassin’s Creed Origins. Can it fix a once great franchise that has stagnated over the years?

Assassin’s Creed Origins looks to be a big change up for the series which is in desperate need of just that. Now is this going to make the game better or not is what remains to be seen. It’s arguably the best looking Assassin’s Creed game yet. Stunningly beautiful by all accounts. The game is going to be an open world set in ancient Egypt. Gold typed pyramids adorn the skies. It looks fantastic. I am so ready for Assassin’s Creed to be in that time and place.

Now not only is it open world but it’s also an RPG with what appear to be deep and varied skill trees. Borrowing from Bethesda’s Fallout 4 and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim the minimap has been replaced with what I like to call the wayfinder breadcrumb bar. It’s a UI widget that shows icons on it denoting there is a place of interest in that general direction. They fade out and shrink on the bar if you move away from them or become brighter and larger as you approach them. If it’s anything like the Bethesda games it means there are hundreds of locations to discover and I will get sidetracked for days before finishing quests just following breadcrumbs from one end of the map to the other. It’s fun but it’s frustrating when you want to limit gameplay time.

From different trailers and clips I can see they have taken inspiration from some outside sources too which could be a good sign. They have borrowed the eagle scouting from Far Cry Primal instead of staying with the series staple eagle vision ie: Batman vision. But sadly it doesn’t look like your eagle will be able to eat the faces off of people like it did in Far Cry. I gather there is a new looting system and a meaningful crafting system too so I am definitely stoked to play this game.

Another big change is the combat. No more Batman: Arkham style doge block counter dodge block counter. So now more typical Assassin’s Creed where you just stand there waiting for someone to attack and then kill them in a one hit counter. Now it looks like they are going more into a Bloodborne combat style. Fast free form attacks and dodges in longer and tougher battles. This could be great. I really enjoyed combat in Bloodborne. I just hated the Souls style die and redo everything along with rage inducing boss fights. But the trash mob fights were lots of fun.

The one thing that I had noticed though is he main character still seems boring. Maybe he’ll end up being good who knows but I really want a great character like Ezio again. Fun and brash and charming. I want my Assassin’s Creed games to be more fun Marvel movie rather than dark and brooding DC movie. Hopefully I won’t be let down but I’ve been burnt many a time by Ubisoft and Assassin’s Creed. Either way I’m sure it will be better than the average game.

This is great but honestly the only things that bothers me is that ,theoretically, the creed of the assassin's was founded in 1095 in Syria or something like that .
Anyway, can't wait to see some Minerva/Juno action !
