G'day fellow Steemians and welcome to Juicy's Early Look Into where I take a first a look into some new early access games or first impressions of other titles. Today I would like to talk about something I have spending quite a bit of my time on lately and if you haven't guessed it yet I'm here to talk about They Are Billions
What is They Are Billions?
They Are Billions is a new Early Access Indie title that launched in early December 2017 that has taken the PC players by storm as of late. If you haven't heard of this game fear not as I'm here to tell you about it now and why you should maybe give it a try!
My Base starting off
They Are Billions is a Real Time Strategy game where the goal is to survive in a post apocalyptic world where the zombies have taken over and if you haven't guessed it THERE IS BILLIONS OF THEM it is your job to start from a lonely command center and build up to a thriving colony that is will struggle survive the oncoming zombie hordes. Now let me to you, you will struggle to survive as this game doesn't take it easy on you (Especially when you're like me and refuse to drop the difficulty).
Colony getting set up
Gameplay
There is currently only one mode available in the BETA version of They Are Billions so far and that is Survival mode where the aim is to Survive for a set amount of days you select when starting the game. There is a campaign being mode that is being developed for when the game is being launched
Upon starting They Are Billions the goal becomes clear. You have to survive, whether you go the right way about getting to that goal isn't so clear and means you will find yourself having to restart the game time to time as you weren't aware of how crucial setting some parts of your colony is at certain times.
Expansion to the north
Getting certain parts of your colony running at certain parts of the game is crucial due to the fact every once in awhile you will be notified of a incoming horde. Now these hordes can get ridiculously massive and all it takes is a few zombies to breach your defenses to bring your colony to its knees.
When zombies destroy a quarter of a buildings health it makes the building become infected and need repairing but worst of all it spawns more zombies meaning if buildings are built close to eachother a zombie breakout can quickly snowball out of control.
Upgrading my colony
There isn't a massive variety of buildings and units in the game at its current BETA state but there is certainly depth already there and it shows a lot of potential for more mechanics, buildings and units to come as this game goes along in its game development cycle
They Are Billions consists of three different phases I've found so far.
- The First phase is the initial start of the game where you have to quickly explore the surrounding area and start setting up your colony.
- The Second phase is expanding your base as much as possible before the next horde of zombies passes your way
- The third phase is getting completely by the Horde of zombies and trying to quickly rebuild defenses and repeating phase 2 again
This is all until you come nearing to the end of the time limit you set at the start of the game when the final horde of the game approaches to decimate you and put you in your place. This game has some real difficulty when these hordes come around as they are a flood of zombies coming from one direction.
Defenses are falling
Should I wait until closer to release to buy this game?
Im always one to be wanting to wait until a game is atleast closer to completion before buying it but They Are Billions is extremely new and extremely addicting already, the amount of times this game has made me want to cry as I watch my colony's go from a complete sprawling success to a zombie infested wasteland. But I am determined to make this game bend to my will and wont give up. I hope to see that this game starts getting regularly updated and I'm very curious to see where they take the campaign of the game and in the end I can't say whether I think its worth buying in its current state as that should be your own choice (go do some choosing you)
My colony has been overrun
Beta version 0.5 Rating:
8.5/10
Hey Have you heard that I run a Witness Server under @cryptwo?
Recently I have launched a Witness Server under a different account I share with user @kodieamos and it would be great if you could go chuck @cryptwo a follow and check out the updates that come out from him. If you haven't noticed many witness's are not active that are in the top 200, we hope Steemians will vote for users that are getting stuck behind this non active witness's maybe even chuck in a witness vote for cryptwo while you're at it you wont regret it ;)
I'm still trying to win at Minesweeper, so it'll be a while til I get to these games!
I won minesweeper, now I've moved on to spider solitaire.
I wish i was good enough to win at minesweeper, still struggling.
Looks like a fun game. I love strategy games, I played Stronghold 2 and 3 and many other strategy games.
I love strategy games myself but usually find myself drifting towards the turn based strategy games as i feel like they can incorporate more strategy and dont enforce needing to be the quickest thinker and give you time to plan things out
I know some strategy games aren't really difficult, those game developers are just trying to make money without putting work in a game.
Your review makes the game sound great.
I think I read about the game on Steam durimg the holidays. I was also uncertain about its early access status. 🤓
Currently i love the game so much but it is lacking any multiplayer elements at the moment is is solely
a single player experience but hopefully that changes throughout its time in early access

I havent missed it ;) already on the task to be putting together a post tomorrow to try and get ourselves some extra funding for our servers
awesome game :)
I think it has some great potential but we shall see what the full game ends up looking like, are you much of a PC gamer?
not really lol. I've recently started Fallout 4 on PS4 but not sure when I'll finish that.
Sounds like a lot of fun. I've got to get back into playing games, especially this type
