AMD and Intel are at it again. This time the battle is for the high end CPU market dominance. The two biggest Chipmakers in the world are soon going to release new top of the line CPUs intended for enthusiasts and workstations.
Intel Core i9:
Few days ago rumors leaked on the internet of the new Skylake-X and Kabylake-X line of chips from Intel. The leak comes from a forum member at AnandTech. The forum post is a picture of a slide displaying the specs of Intel’s new line of chips.
Interestingly the new Kabylake-X chips will be called the core i9 (like the i3 and the i5 but you probably already figured that out). This news has excited many interested parties and not just because of the new name. Based on the specs sheet, it is apparently quite powerful.

Core i9-7920X: 12C/24T, unknown clocks, 16.5MB cache, 140W, 44 PCIe lanes
Core i9-7900X: 10C/20T, 3.3GHz to 4.3GHz, 13.75MB cache, 140W, 44 PCIe lanes
Core i9-7820X: 8C/16T, 3.6GHz to 4.3GHz, 11MB cache, 140W, 28 PCIe lanes
Core i9-7800X: 6C/12T, 3.5GHz to 4GHz, 8.25MB cache, 140W, 28 PCIe lanes
12 cores and 24 threads is no joke. It should, in theory outperform any other i7 processor in the market. Although Intel’s Xeon processors can have up to 24 cores, they are not meant for commercial use like the soon to launch i9. Unsurprisingly, this piece of hardware won’t come cheap. At this point, the price is not confirmed, but is estimated to be over $1000.
