Arma III
Military simulation at it's finest.
ARMA gameplay is so different and less homogenized than the other shooter games out there such as CS;GO, Battlefield, and other modern-day gun fighting games. It's a game for thinkers and tacticians. It's a game for people who are patient and who enjoy executing a well thought-out plan.
It is is bar none, the BEST military simulation on the PC that is available to the public and priced under $1000.00. Yes there are flight sims that do flight more realistic, there are tank sims that do tanks more realistic, etc, etc, etc. However, there are no other games that combine ALL the aspects of a military simulation in one full package like the Arma series does.
This third installment of Arma is the continuation of the Arma series, which started out as "Operation Flashpoint 1985".
OPF:1985 was considered the best of it's time when it was released and the Arma series has continued that tradition with many of the same developers that created OPF:1985. With a simple quick mission builder, a full blown complex high-end mission editor, mods, mods, and even more mods to make Arma III something really special to those of us who enjoy these type of games.
If you want the same feature set, but more realistic you would have to actually be in the military and have a security clearance and thousands of dollars. But you can get close to the same thing that real combat forces around the world actually train with for less than $60 and you don't need to sign-up for a service or subscription.
Graphics:
Altis and Stratis look fantastic and the architecture and design make you feel like you are in a genuinely Mediterranean location. The water is fresh and blue, and the trees shimmer in the sunlight as they are supposed to. The ground is home to a lot of detail, with rocks you can use as cover, sea stacks obscuring different locations, and ruins with plenty to discover. The modelling is fantastic and the weapons are crisp and sound spectacular. The only issue is that this game runs surprisingly bad, utilizing only two cores of your processor (or something like that), meaning that you would have to play on medium to low settings if you have a lower-end system.
Multiplayer:
It's not the best unless you're playing with friends. Zeus is a fantastic addon with on-the-fly mission creation, but I wouldn't think about playing it in public even once. Battle Royale is over-hyped, island life is boring and requires too many mods. MILSIM is fantastic but as always there are good groups and crap groups out there.
Positives:
- Engaging and challenging campaign;
- Almost endless replayability via user generated content or multiplayer;
- Relatively easy to get in to;
- Diverse multiplayer community;
- New user generated content (maps, guns, vehicles, overhaul mods, missions, etc.);
- All in one game (FPS, RPG, RTS, etc. modes available);
- Pleasing to the eye;
- Gives you the possibility to brag about knowing how to clear buildings, stay in formation and etc.;
- Training given by military personnel who play this game can help you in real life (incl. paintball and air-soft);
Negatives:
- Can be buggy at times (especially when new patches come out);
- Spotty AI performance (from full derp to terminator);
- Semi-steep learning curve for basic game play (attachments, maps, weapon sway etc.);
- Very steep learning curve for expert game play (formations, chain of command, team synergy, etc.);
- Taxing on your gaming rig (lack of good hardware can limit your tactical possibilities in-game);
- People will probably hate you at how good at firefights you will become (in games and real life);
The Trailer:
Final Verdict:
99/100
- 10% luck
- 20% skill
- 15% concentrated power of will
- 5% pleasure
- 50% pain
- 100% reason to purchase the game.
This game never ceases to amaze me , like the whole Series. It's a different experience every time I load it up. This game owes it reputability and popularity to the Community.
