Over Time & History
Games have helped mold our young Generations. All you need to do is look through a window at your local toy store to see how powerful these franchises have become. Some people resonate with the earlier titles like Super Mario and Donkey Kong, newer generations to World of Warcraft and Call Of Duty - Everyone is different. It's amazing to see though, how widely accepted "being a nerd" has become.
Being a Nerd is Hip Today, even Superstars like James Franco can't wait to tell the world.
Some Games Are As Iconic As Religion
Heck, some games are treated Like a Religion, just take a look at the South Korean Professional Starcraft scene, it's craziness! Even in the west, the Professional Dota 2, League Of Legends, CSGO and Call Of Duty pro-gaming scenes are getting MASSIVE!
Just look at the size and scale of this League Of Legends Tournament. People are making MILLIONS winning these.
The Most Iconic Games
To me, there are some very special and iconic games in my life. In this post I'm going to share my opinion on the most iconic and influential games of all time, in no particular order. I hope you guys enjoy!
Super Mario
Nobody is going to forget!
Our Favorite plumber and his rag-tag gang of misfits trying to save Peach from Bowser anytime soon!
For many, many years this franchise has been at the very top of the pedestal. With Merchandise ranging from Clothing to Toothpicks, it's not hard to see why this Franchise has also been one of the highest grossing of all time aswell.
World Of Warcraft
Who's going to forget
The huge effect the WoW has had on the world. Blizzard hit the nail of the head with this one. Originally the Lore of Story of WoW comes from the Real Time Strategy game Warcraft. Warcraft had a cult-like following that was almost Religious (WoW even had a South Park Episode based on it and it's players).
Warcraft had the ability for player mods and at it's peak had literally hundreds of thousands of player made, maps, modes and heros. The incredibly successful "MOBA" genre (Dota 2, League Of Legends) that was created as a mod for Warcraft, goes to show how evolutionary modding can be.
At WoW's peak it enjoyed Millions upon Millions of Subscribers from all around the world. The Lore and Characters involved became famous figures worldwide amongst younger Generations. So that's why this one makes the list! It's amazing to think WoW has been played for over 10 years straight now and is STILL a juggernaut in the Massive Multiplayer Online Genre (MMO).
Doom
The game that started a Genre
We all have Doom to thank for our modern titles such as CoD, Half Life, Halo, Battlefield ect. Doom propelled the First Person Genre into the stratosphere with it's release. Ever since it's inception, Doom has always had a strong presence in Pop Culture, from movies starring The Rock Dwayne Johnson, to merchandise and remakes of games that keep that bankroll strong. Doom is here to stay.
The latest rendition of Doom was a great one that catapulted it back into the limelight. Taking inspiration from the very first games it had a pace like we havent seen in a AAA fps title in a long time.
There you have it! Thank you for Reading!
I know there are literally hundreds of titles that could have made the list. But it's important to keep it close to my heart. These 3 are the most iconic 3 in my opinion. Let me know what ones you would have added!
I also want to take a quick moment to make a
Shoutout
to some of the most important yet unmentioned people on this platform that have supported me in the past;
The Curators!
Throughout my time using the platform I've noticed there are people driving the quality content we see in the trending and hot pages. These people are part of the reason that Steemit is a remarkable platform. Not everyone likes to curate or even use steemit for it's true purposes, these people do.
So if you don't mind, drop over to the page of these un-sung heros and give them a follow for supporting our platform!
They are these people;

Nice article, personally I would have added Master Chief (not much of a halo fan myself but he is iconic), despite being relavtively new, Tracer from overwatch (I don't think I even need to explain this one haha), Cloud from Final Fantasy 7 (again not a fan of the game but an iconic character) and Ryu from Street Fighter.
Ohh, they are all brilliant additions! Certainly some Iconic gaming personalities there!
There are just sooo many to choose from when you think about it in depth, i could spend a whole week writing a blog on this! haahha
Love this article! Also, love the games mentioned! Got a new follower!
I am so glad you have wow in here! Thanks!
I would throw up there, obviously pong and Mario - Mortal Kombat, Goldeneye, GTA, Final Fantasy, Zelda Ocarina of Time, Warcraft, and Madden. Feel like these were al either the foundation or massive step forward in their respective genres
