Games don't need to be happy and give joy, I don't play for joy I play for a kind of emotional connection with story games, video games can do something movies can't and thats let your actions determine the ending and the lifes of the people around you - this interactivity is why I love story games even though they can be heart wrenching because they can tell a story better then a movie can in my opinion and a good example of this is RDR2 which is a game made to tell a story and its immersion and gameplay in every single scene mean you never get taken out of the action and you built emotional relationships with each character, you actually hate Micha and for a video game thats absolutely incredible, video games don't have to be for joy they can be vessels for the best story telling of all time because its the only medium that can truly use show and don't tell to maximum effect
