For years now, perhaps even for a decade, there is a fairly unnecessary controversy about which gaming systems are best for the average player. In this discussion, each party has its own adjectives, but when the ball is in the possession of the PlayStation team, the fact is that they, like a card from a sleeve, can always pull a card called Naughty Dog and cause serious damage to the opponent's side. Because Naughty Dog is exactly this - one of the greatest golgeters of the Sony team with a fantastic percentage hits right at the bullseye. Their portfolio is proud of titles like the original Crash Games, The Last of Us and the entire Uncharted series, so the expectations of each of their new projects are always at a high level.
The adventures of Nathan Drake were tracked through four stories of Uncharted franchises, the last of which was to represent the grand finale of these fantastic games. That's the way it was because "A Thief's End" rounded up a great whole in a great way and left one of the strongest impressions of all the games that came out last year (if not the best). And then, right from nowhere, we find out that a new game with Uncharted name is waiting for us very soon. And after a year, little by little, in front of us is The Lost Legacy, a kind of spin off project that explains that Nathan is not the only person who has such crazy adventures all over the world.
This time, Chloe Frazer, a girl who is familiar to everyone who played the second part of Uncharted, takes on the role. It is a very striking figure, which by its appearance and attitude, makes it clear that it is not someone to be understood lightly, and in Lost Legacy it will have the opportunity to tell us our story and to give us an insight into how a woman is dealing with pretty rugged world that is left behind and forgotten for centuries behind us and beneath us. I must admit that Chloe carries this game with unexpected ease, and when it gets even more space, it would probably create a name for itself like Nathan and Lara - two symbols that defined this type of game.
As is usual in Naughty Dog games, the player will not be left to himself, but will be in the almost constant company of a rather unexpected partner. Nadine Ross, one of the fourth part of the antagonist, will walk with the player together through these travels, and we will have the opportunity to meet her in a new light, and to have insight into her attitudes and motives that led her to this moment. The dynamics of their relationship is, in fact, the bearer of the game, and their unexpected partnership will pass through time through turbulent and excellently done moments.
This female duo will set off the path of India (in which the whole game is played) and after the introductory chapters that take place in the city environment, a beautiful world for untouched human beings will open before us. The graphic game in moments seems so beautiful, that in some moments you will definitely have to stop and absorb the environment that Naughty Dog has prepared for us. Similar to the fourth one, one of the chapters will be practically a mini open world, which will give you the opportunity to explore the world in any order, at will. It is also the biggest chapter in which you will be able to stay most of the time. If you decide to discover an optional secret located at this place (which will guide you all over the map), count that you will stay here more than half the game itself.
On the other hand, if you decide to focus on the main story, do not be surprised when the end credits starts off after seven hours of playing. Although the length should not be decisive for the experience that the game is carrying, many will not be satisfied with the price of 40 euros to be spend for a rather short adventure. Of course, it can be expanded with a multiplayer and a survival mode, as well as with an optional quest during the above chapter, but the core of the game is a singleplayer narration that is definitely on the limit to be too short.
However, the main problem of this title is not its length. Simply put, the gameplay mechanics itself does not offer anything new to anyone who has already gone through the last part of the Drake's adventure. If we add that this title came out very quickly after the fourth part, there is a huge impression of "already seen". Absolutely none of the items in the game are innovative. If we exclude that Chloe pick locked locks from hair bobby-pin (which Nathan, of course, does not have in his arsenal), we will realize that behind her feminine curves and the animation of the movement hides everything that already existed before. All the actions will be too familiar to you and somewhere you will eagerly await some new skill that will bring some freshness into the game, but this will never happen.
Chloe is a character, clearly defined and masterfully made in terms of personalization and vocalization, but it is to be expected to have her set of skills that will be at least a bit distant from Drake. However, shooting, climbing, skating and rolling are almost scanned from the previous game, but there is no end to it. You will drive almost identical 4 × 4 jeeps, you will use a hook with a rope or crampons that stab into the walls in the same way. Of course, hot water can not be invented, but at least one skill that will make us aware that this is a new game and that it is a new character. At the moment, it feels like this project is designed by the principle of "take money and run" because it can not have great criticism when the basis of the mechanics of the game is in question, but on the other hand, the game does not bring almost anything new.
This is a game for people who still need Uncharted in their life, and they will not be disappointed by this fast-paced stand-alone DLC. But those who have rounded up the whole of the previous part and left the side of the Uncharted bar for some time, can very easily sense the appearance of fatigue and make a sense of deja vu during the game. Yes, the story is new and it's interesting to learn something new about Indian mythology, gods and their symbols. The characters are also almost new and it is great to see this whole world from their perspective. But if you expect to deepen the core of gaming and innovation in terms of gameplay, this will unfortunately not happen. This is actually Uncharted 4 with a new character and a new place of events. The only question is whether such a thing can sufficiently justify the length of the game, the price and the sense of feeling. Quality is certainly here, but we knew that and had the opportunity to play even a year ago in a much larger and richer offer. It's definitely a great title, but before you decide to buy it, ask yourself how much have you wished for Uncharted in this year.
