Monster Hunter Weapon #8 : Gunlance

in #gaming7 years ago

Gunlance is very similar to its brother the Lance. But make no mistake there are very big differences between the two. Gunlance has a firing mechanism built in the weapon allowing it to fire explosive shells after stabbing. Just imagine stabbing into a monster then blowing it up from the insides, YUP this is a deadly weapon! However these shells are not for long distance so dont expect to shoot at a monster from a safe range.

Unlike the other ranged weapons in this game Gunlance has infinite ammo and you can reload at anytime. It's awesome that you have infinite ammo and not have to worry about running out, but the downside is you cant change up the ammo to use scatter shot, pierce shot, elemental attacks like the other ranged weapons.

Gunlance and Lance both have best large shields in the game allowing them to block majority of attacks that other shields in the game find unblockable. Which is why there are several builds where you go as a tank with a Gunlance.

Gunlance comes with a very powerful ability called the Wyvern Fire. Once you activate it, it charges up for 3 seconds and fires a massive explosion directly in front of you. Afterwards you have to wait for the cooldown is up before you can use the attack again. This is great when you have a monster knocked down, asleep and immobilized. Just keep in mind this will use up a lot of your Sharpness so be ready to sharpen it right after.

Pros

  • Powerful shell damage that's unblockable.
  • Good damage
  • Stabbing / shooting Combos flow well into side stepping and into other combos
  • The shell attacks are great for breaking parts other weapons have a hard time with.
  • Powerful guarding ability

Con

  • Sharpness will decrease really quickly from shooting with shells.
  • Heavy and slow animations such as reloading and Wyvern Fire
  • Limited ability to dodge - hop backwords/side stepping
