5 PC Video Games Worth Looking Into In 2017

in #gaming7 years ago

Hello again Steemit friends!
Today I wanted to share my thoughts and review what I consider to be games worth looking into in 2017. If you're a console gamer, I apologize because I know nothing about that world anymore. I haven't owned a console since the PS3 and I used that more for Netflix than gaming. This post is for my PC gamers out there, especially those who play on Steam. All the games I will mention are available through Steam, so go check them out! So without further ado lets get to it!

#5 THE LONG DARK

-The Long Dark is an open-world survival game set in the freezing cold wilderness. You are a solo survivor stranded in the woods and must battle the cold, wolves, hunger, dehydration, etc. Its mostly an exploration game with the struggle of survival, so its not for everybody, but if you're into that sort of thing then check it out! I've had the game for awhile during it's early access phase, but it just recently reached full release and I plan on checking it out as I've had it sitting on the shelf for some time now. The game runs for $34.99 on Steam, which I would say is really pricey. If you can catch it on sale anywere between the $15-$20 range you'd be getting a better deal.

#4 theHunter: Call of the Wild

-This is one of my favorite new games of 2017. The first PC game I ever played was a Cabela's Big Game Hunter game, so it kinda has a nostalgia feel for me. I haven't played a hunting game since my childhood but they have come along way since then. This game is full of quest and has a story to it. There are skill trees and perk trees. The maps are huge, and full of great hunting spots as well as scenic views. I shoot more pictures than animals sometimes when I play. If you hunt IRL then you should definitely consider getting this game. It tries to stay true and realistic with tracking and calls. It rewards you for being humane and gives quick kill bonuses. This game teaches you that patience is a virtue. Just last night I waited for about 10 minutes surrounded by 5 does, just waiting for the buck to come out of the treeline he was hiding in. My patience paid off as I ended up scoring two buck's and now have a great hunting story to share. Speaking of sharing, thats another great part about this game, it has multiplayer!!! You and your friends can hunt together, or separately on the huge maps this game has. Friendly competition always makes games a little more exciting. You can pick the game up for $29.99 on Steam which I would say is a reasonable price given the replay value and the amount of time you will spend hunting achievements as it is rather addicting. I would recommend buying any of the non-free DLC on sale if you want it, but it's really not needed. Having a four wheeler is convenient when traveling long distances, but you miss out on plenty of hunting opportunities when you take the shortcut.

#3 BATTLE BROTHERS

-Battle Brothers is a turn-based strategy RPG set in medieval times. You lead a group of mercenaries through the world, managing their gear, hiring new mercs, and taking jobs to pay their wages. You must keep your men well armed and your crews numbers healthy to survive in the harsh world. There are elements of strategy both in the gear set up of your men and how you choose to approach your opponents in battle. You can pick the game up on Steam for $29.99 which is just a little high. If you can catch it at the $20 dollar range, I'd say that is more of a fair price.

#2 THE WILD EIGHT

-The Wild Eight is a unique game, and definitely one of the top games so far in 2017. You pick from one of 8 survivors of a plane crash and go through an adventure through the frozen wilderness. Each of the survivors has their own unique traits which will help aid you in different ways depending on your style of gameplay. If you have 7 friends you can each play one of the survivors and work as a team to make it through the adventure, although from first hand experience managing food becomes a lot harder when playing with friends. Overall I think most peoples biggest complaint about the game is that it is too hard, but that is kind of what I like about the game. Yes it is challenging but so is surviving in the wild! I have been able to progress just fine through the quest line, but I take my time with each portion of the game and make sure my needs are taken care of first before I try and rush through the game. Although I said the more people the more challenging food management becomes, I feel like this is the perfect game for 1-3 people to play. While food management may be a bit harder, other aspects of survival such as wildlife attacks or even hunting become much easier to accomplish with teamwork. You can pick the game up on Steam for $19.99 which is more than reasonable.

#1 DAY OF INFAMY

-Day Of Infamy IMO is the best game of 2017 so far. It is a fps game set during WWII. It is a game that relies heavily on teamwork and tactics to successfully complete objective and advance on the enemy. Dying is a bid deal. The defending team starts the game with more respawn waves than the attacking team, and must defend points a,b,c,d starting with a and then progressing down the line if a point gets captured. If the attacking theam succesfully take a point they gain more respawn waves for their teams and can progress to the next point of capture. The damage in this game is insanely high so you must be super careful when moving around the map. While camping is frowned upon in other games, the ability to hold a position and keep a lane clear is key to victory in this game and must be done by both teams throughout a campaign. I have had hours of fun playing this game and hope that more people will join and help the community for this game to grow. You can pick it up on Steam for $19.99 which is a steal if you consider the amount of hours you will play. I mean compare that to how much you would spend for 2 hours of entertainment at a movie theater and you're making off like a bandit.

In conclusion 2017 has blessed us with some pretty amazing games so far. These are just my personal favorites so far. If there are other games from this year that you guys like, please comment below and let me know as I am always down to buy and try out new games.

P.S. Its not out yet but I can tell you right now this is one game I will be getting this year...

Sort:

I've been playing Day of Infamy since it was a mod on the game Insurgency. Let me tell you, it has improved tenfold into a very well fleshed out and addictive game. That being said, don't go into thinking you'll get the same experience as a AAA game. It is a fairly small team so they aren't able to add the flashy cinematic effects that games like Battlefield 1 have. But if you go into with the intention of enjoying a well thought out, team and objective oriented WWII shooter, you'll enjoy the hell out of it.

Its definitely smaller than Battlefield. I feel like its a good mix between Battlefield and Squad, just shrunk down a little. If you haven't played Squad you should check that out too.

theHunter: Call of the Wild my fav

Excellent post! When I'm able to play PC games again, I'll look at these closer!

Followed, upped, and resteemed! Thank you for sharing!

Why aren't you able to play PC games currently?

I recently moved from Ohio to Texas. Some things got misplaced, left behind, and recently found, including my mouse, wireless adapter, and power cord to the TV I'm using as a monitor. Sadly, it'll be a month or more before I can have them shipped here. :(

Nice post, beautifully presented.

I bought the hunter call of the wild recently but haven't had a chance to play it yet as I only have my laptop while working away, The one I'd recommend this year thats recently come out of early access is Everspace a rogue style space shooter with permadeath, very good if you like that sort of game...

Just looked up Everspace. Thanks for the suggestion! I doubt I will buy it, simply because it looks very similar to Elite Dangerous, which I already own, but if it goes on sale I might pick it up. Have you heard of or played Elite Dangerous? And if so could you comment on the differences between the two games that might make Everspace worth getting?

Yes I have Elite dangerous, the two games are very different, Elite is much more of a sim whereas Everspace you can instantly play as the controls are like freelancer used to be, it also has a completely different pace being more arcade style but still having much the same amount of things going on as Elite dangerous, I would think you'd like it....

Congratulations @mrmime! You received a personal award!
