It's pretty crazy, I remember getting the press release for this game too. The game's creator is a real genuine guy and I hope the series finds success, especially with the sequel/port to the Switch coming out soon.
It's definitely worth checking out if you're into god sims and worth a buy if it goes on sale on Steam.
