Splinterlands - Survival mode.

in #gaming3 days ago

Welcome to the next splinterlands experience.

Survival mode.

In Survival Mode players can battle without the need for energy until they run out of playable cards. Unlike the regular game modes where you can use your deck over and over again, the twist here is that once a card dies in battle it's on cooldown for a specific period of time.

How long depends on its rarity, level and foil. A minimum of 48 hours has been mentioned for some cards, while lower-level or common cards may take longer. During this time, the card becomes unusable across all game modes (including Survival, Modern, Wild, Tournaments, and Guild Brawls) until the cooldown expires or the season ends.

I love the idea.

Then I moved up the ranks a bit and started losing cards which made things a lot tougher. The real problem is the summoners. I have lots of low level cards that i can keep squeezing into my lineup but as soon as you lose a couple of high level summoners all of your decent spare cards are worthless.

Playing maxed cards on a level two summoner is pointless and if you lose then all of them are gone for days. I tried to rent extra summoners but they don't show up in survival mode at the moment which will hopefully get fixed soon.

It's impossible to stay competitive and move up the ranks if i can't get a few more summoners to use with the extra cards that i have.

There is a surrender button if you see a top opponent sitting there and don't want to risk your cards but it feels like a cop out. I'm not sure what the solution for that is but having an easy exit doesn't feel right.

How it's going now.

My last update as of today.

Winning about 2-1 at the moment which isn't bad compared to my usual 50/50 in wild mode. The biggest problem for me at the moment is the summoners issue. I have a few maxed out but not enough to be competitive in this mode. Most of mine are saved for wild format and i can't afford to lose too many in survival.

I do like the new mode which has made me interested in playing the game by myself again. If they can reduce the summoner cooldown times it would help.

If they could fix the rental issue it would help.

But overall the new format adds an extra layer of competition that wasn't there before. There are real consequences to losing that weren't there before.

I do think that the new format needs time to settle in a bit as the match making is all over the place. I went form playing against bronze level teams with L1 summoners to matching with Yabamatt who has 40M card power and multiples of almost every card in the game.

It's hard to keep playing when guys like that can destroy your teams several times over and not feel a thing. Luckily I did beat him but lost a few good cards in the process.

It's a fun new twist on an old blockchain game.

Try for yourself.

If you haven't played the game before then now is the best time to join. Today is much better than tomorrow and a lot better than later.

I like Survival. Unfortunately, I'm stuck needing to do some re-organizing of the deck and didn't have the time to do it. So, haven't played for a few good days.

I think the survival mode will make the game more interesting

I think I will just wait for the season end when all cool downs are resetted
