Ethercraft: A decentralized RPG running on the Ethereum Blockchain.

in #gaming7 years ago (edited)

You had me at Decentralized RPG. I just bought some legendary gloves for 0.1 ETH and the Muramasa, a legendary sword for 0.2 ETH.

And now I'm waiting for the actual game to start existing.

Items buying, Crafting and a playable game. Equip a character and send him off to plunder dungeons and slay enemies.

Trading

Players will be able to buy, sell, and trade items beginning immediately, as all of our items are independent tokens adhering to the ERC20 token standard. You are in complete control of your items.

Loot Crates

Among our launch items is a series of loot crates, including one available completely free of charge, which act as chance items. Players will be able to open (roll) these loot crates, potentially receiving rare and valuable loot. The core logic for rolls is currently undergoing testing and is one of our top priorities—we aim to incorporate it into the crafting contract ASAP so that everyone can start rolling their loot crates in short order.

Fun. Reminds me of basketball collecting cards when I was a kid. Most cards you got were crap, but some are worth thousands of dollars today. (If I can only find my cards..I probably have more than $2000USD worth of collectible basketball cards, but I put them somewhere safe..and I honestly don't understand where they are. lol

Gold pieces

Gold pieces(XGP) is an ERC20 token wich will serve as game world and item currency. Two functions: Intermediary for everything involded ETH transfer. Did you find some gold in the dungeon? Bring it back and purchase items in the shop.

Also, they will add a smart contract that will buy back gold from the players at a fixed rate of ETH (And we all know how those fixed rates turn out! yay!)

Also, gold pieces means stake and governace. Holding gold will give players ability to determine which new items, locations and features should be added to the game.

The player will…

  • Roll a new character, equipping that character with select items that they already own. The character and the chosen items are then held by the core game contract.

  • Choose the character’s tactics, first on a per-dungeon basis and later* in a more fine-grained manner (see Tech section below).

  • Enter a dungeon, watching as the character traverses floor by floor in an attempt to reach and conquer the unknown and (hopefully) emerge with a big pile of loot!

Why I'm stoked

The idea of players/investors being able to create, find and hodl value in a computergame is something I find very fascinating and something that I was thinking about and speculating about even as a child.

Diablo 2 fascinated me immenselely when I was a young teen. The randomly generated great weapons (were they randomly generated or did it just feel like that? Anyway..you could find a lot of unique weapons that nobody else had, and you could modify them in so many different ways) system, and the feeling that your gametime wasn't being wasted.

Now, with blockchain technology this is finally possible. Players can invest both time and money into a computer game and since all assets are finite, you don't have to be afraid that the developers will just inflate the game with more stuff.

Imagine playing WOW or something like that and investing several YEARS possibly into it, and you own many items. Suddenly someone cries about unfairness in the game mechanics and the developers decide to inflate the game with items, and all of sudden your effort is wasted (at least economically)

Wouldn't it be great to be able to participate, create and own a spaceship, or swords, or boots or whatever that increase in value as the game gains popularity.

Games like Ethercraft can very well be quite big. And they can last long if the actual GAME is fun as well. Imagine going on missions in randomly generated dungeons to find randomly generated unique items. And not only do these items have value IN GAME, they are tradable for real currencies. I can't think of anything cooler.

In the future (5-10 years, perhaps sooner) we will see LARGE scale games working on the blockhain, like Parsec Frontiers. And if people enjoy spending time in virtual worlds, then there is a lot of value to be created there.

I strongly believe that investing in unique objects, land and even playing time in decentralized game worlds could actually build furtunes in the future. It's going to be pioneering all over again. Unraveled land once again. The early settlers will make fortunes in virtual realities using virtual crypto currencies. That's why I'm investing in almost all of them. The ones that succeeds will become incredibly huge. Now, run and buy some swords and shields!

Here is my recently purchased stuff

This is not investment advice. Never invest more than you can afford to lose :)

Ah, but doesn't this solution of Inflation problem will mean that the game items will be increasingly hard to get, and at some point it would be impossible for new players to play without investing huge amounts of money?

I totally agree, I think it might happen sooner as we already have extremely fast blockchains currently, which solves one of the problems we had in past years. Though I think we might need better blockchain systems for LARGE game worlds.

I included this post in my Gaming Daily by the way~

Perhaps GREAT legendary items..but there is nothing in the way of creating less legendary items as the game goes along? I'm not sure. I hope they think that one through though :)

The current items that are expensive are going to be some of the best in the game. There will always be really cheap items to help new players get started. It is still a zero-sum game, so those who get the cheap or "free" items will have less potential reward, but could still get lucky and loot better gear that helps them advance to harder dungeons. There are also plans to stop high-end players from farming the easy dungeons (or at least not make it worth their while).

Ah, that's good.

This game looks much much better than the kitties game!

Retro game on a blockchain, RPG (which is my favorite type of game), and with a possibility if massive earnings (like with the kitties) if the game become popular.

My only doubt is if ethereum can handle this right now? I guess that if this becomes popular then the ethereum network will end up having the same problems the had with the kitties.

I wonder if something like this game is possible on steem or eos?

Because I saw the famous agar game interacting with steem blockchain here @steemplayroom , and with @cryptoctopus rewarding the winner about 10$ .

Ha! That's even better than Crypto Kitties :)

Excelente es esa idea de coloca los vídeo juegos con valor.
