A lot of people dismiss VA or don't know anything about them... most people are familiar with TN panels which are terrible for colour production and are amzing for response times and high refresh rates.... but suffer horrible in view angels too. However a good quality TN can now match a lower tier IPS..
IPS panels has always been slow, but exceptional at colour production and typically contrast and view angles. In the past they were always considered to be the display to get for professional use but definitely to be avoided for gaming at the moment.
VA panels sadly have been always not sure how to say, overlooked I think. They are a blend of mostly the best of both IPS and Tn. Producing the best contrasts and proper blacks while usually being slightly over saturated on colours (harder to get close to the more neutral colour levels). However in the last say 8 years or so, VA panels have basically become the defacto desirable display to get for gaming and are used in some professional applications because they produce such ideal colours and contrast that they can match or beat many of the IPS without any issues. To be honest they aren't perfect at all..
The Q80T for example is a hell of a display that uses VA... the QN85A are IPS but basically identical displays, with the exception of the 85" being VA still..
The QN85A however uses miniled backlightning which has it's advantages... these are pretty... well i'd say mid-highend displays without going all out top tier.
This also translates down to the more budget oriented models... in the 24 and 27/28 or 30-32" displays ..
Setup 2 as close to identical displays, one IPS and one VA... guaranteed almost everyone is going to look at the VA and go "oh that one looks and plays games so much nicer"
