This week the PokeSTEEM Battle League is challenging the STEEMIT Community to a specially designed Battling Tournament. While many of us love using the huge powerhouses and OverUsed Pokemon such as Charizard, Blastoise, Pikachu and so on. With this tournament we have allowed Pokemon from a specific region in order to change up playstyles and keep players on their toes.
Why Freshmen Hall?
Freshmen Halls are the living areas in colleges or universities that first-year students occupy. They are a place where people make the first friends they are going to share during their time at the school. These areas hold inexperienced spirits looking to make a difference in their now opened world.
In 1996 when Pokemon was first announced the craze took the world by storm. Whoever when you first play the original Pokemon Red, Blue, Green, or Yellow Versions there is a small selection of Pokemon you can choose from. The bugs, the birds, and the rat have been the staple beginning monsters before facing against the lizards, inanimate objects, and dragons of the rest of the world. Satoshi Tajiri was a huge bug collector and such the first few steps into the Pokemon World feels very rural and takes places in forests just like he played in. These typically end up being the first dumped off into the PC Box as soon as you find something stronger. However a few on the roster(mainly your starter), can be seen later in the game as the Champions who helped you defeat the Elite Four.
This week we are going to highlight those Pokemon and bring them to ring to duke it out and prove their worth.
Pallet Town - "A Pure White Beginning" - Kanto Region
An Image of Pallet Town from Pokemon Heartgold & Soul Silver
Pallet Town is the first town ever! It is located in western Kanto and serves as the hometown of the protagonist of the Pokemon Games. Professor Oak's Laboratory is also in Pallet Town, where the famous Pokémon Professor conducts his research and gives you your first Pokemon!
The players home is here as well as his rival Gary's home. In these places players are able to heal their Pokemon with their Mom or receive a map from Gary's sister.
Now we acknowledge that there are Pokemon you can catch in the water outside of Pallet Town. However, these Pokemon are not available to use in this weeks tournament. The tournament is based on the beginning of the Generation 1 games and this tournament calls for us to use the Pokemon available to us before Brock in any of the games that use these locations.

Route 1 - Kanto Region
An Image of Route 1 From Pokemon Heartgold & Soul Silver
Right outside of Pallet Town, you just received your first Pokemon from Professor Oak and you make your way towards a large route, that will become their very first route you will explore. The road is riddled with tall grass, and ledges that are blocking off most of the route making it hard to travel north, only to have small gaps by which the road has been broken into it.
This is also the first time you meet with the Poké Mart assistant who gives away a free potion. It creates an "S" shape as it winds around. Route 1 travels northerly through two consecutive patches of tall grass, one larger than the other. It then finishes off by curving westerly, and then north as it enters Viridian City.
Later on if you are heading south from Viridian City, youcan either hop down ledges to completely avoid any contact with wild Pokémon on their way to Pallet Town or they can travel through the grass patches, the required path for northbound travel.
There are no opponent Trainers on this route in Generations I and III however in later generations the Poke Mart Employee is replaced with two trainers.

Tomorrow we will discuss the rest of the routes available Pokemon before we move forward. We here at the PokeSTEEM Battle League are looking to grow and connect our Pokemon Community so we will reserve three spaces for Article features of people using the hashtag #pokemon so you can check them out.
