Hey steemers! Steemgaming is a series where I review videogames I purchased with steem. Sometimes I will review free games as well because once in a while, the best things in life are free. Today I will review:
-- THE AMERICAN DREAM --
Price: FREE!
⚠️ This game has some NSFW elements. ⚠️
You can find it here: https://ded.increpare.com/~locus/american_dream/
The American Dream is a thought provoking indie game about modern materialism, consumerism and greed. Your goal is to become a millionaire through the free market by trading stocks represented by celebs of the 1980’s. Buy low, sell high, get filthy rich and earn respect from your peers! The door to success is at your fingertips!
--GAMEPLAY--
You start off in your home, a humble apartment with almost no furniture. You’ve got just 500 dollars in your pockets. You go to work, invest your cash, go home and repeat the cycle a few times until you have enough money to buy better furniture to impress your buddies with. Because if you don’t flaunt your wealth, what will they think? My god, they might assume you’re poor.
Once you’ve purchased everything, it’s party time! The parties are NSFW, by the way, so don't play this with your grandparents.
Immediately afterwards, the monthly furniture catalogue arrives and this happens:
Uh oh. Well, you can’t keep furniture that’s out of style. What are you, a peasant? And so the cycle begins again. Make money, buy more material possessions, have wild parties with your friends. Living la dolce vita, right? No, not really. The game illustrates that this kind of life often feels mind numbing and empty. Once you make a million dollars, a short cutscene happens and the game ends. You've achieved the american dream, but it hasn't filled the gap in your soul.
--SO IS IT WORTH PLAYING?--
My rating: 6.5/10. The message the game is trying to send is really neat, but the gameplay is shallow and gets boring quickly. This game is more of an interactive piece of art than it is a game. It wouldn't be out of place in a museum. It's worth a look if you want something that will make you think but not if all you want is entertainment.
Thanks for reading my review, and see you next time!
Thanks!
