Most people are definitely not addicts and I think governments are really just looking for more reasons to extort and boss around everyone. Video games help with cognitive skills and reflexes. Online game play is great for socializing, team work and shit talk is all part of it too. The government was even thinking about having a PS tax or they have one I forget for sure which one. But they are crooks. I agree that if a gamer feels they need to get help then they need to do it. Everyone needs to educate themselves about this and come to their own conclusion. Each gamer needs to know themselves, they need to examine what their situation is and manage their time accordingly. Be honest with yourself. But don’t give into fear monger in hand lies.

Governments loves extorting money and bossing everyone around. I can imagine a specific 'sin tax' on videogames would not be very popular.
Video games definitely require cognitive and social skills, some more than others. But less face it, the games that are best at that aren't as popular or addictive. Also, most actions in video games are performed much better by bots.
There are usually much better real world alternatives. I recommend playing games for fun and doing other activities to learn unless you completely lack alternatives or have serious motivation issues.
