So, with the steam summer sale finally here, I managed to get my hands on Total War Warhammer finally. I had been holding off on buying it because I have gotten burned on buying games at full price on release in the past, and I am sorry that I waited to long. Its a fantastic game, even though I dont know the lore of the Warhammer universe I still find it to be a great game. Upon loading up the game for the first time I selected the Undead faction because it looked badass and evil , I was seriously considering picking the dwarves but when it said that the average difficulty was Easy, I selected the undead faction. I dont play total war on easy, but I also never play the game on hard for the first few games, At least untill I get the new mechanics down. Upon entering the game world, I started as it typical with only one town, so I put my money towards upgrading that town and building up a large army stack, as I start the game at war with the neighboring Templehof which are fellow vampires, I set out to kill the army that they had in my lands at the time and manage to kill it with ease and while im doing that a second army of theirs comes from a city to the north of mine called I believe Essen. And attacks me my army again I manage to fight them off but not without taking some casualties so I decided to get a peace treaty to allow myself some time to build up... Needless to say I overkilled it and this is what I ended up with in 2 hours of gameplay.
So as you can see in the end I went on a mass conquering run and I have to admit the Banshee and the Spy type character are really helping me out, WIth the banshee I can stop a armies movement or assassinate a general, I managed to kill the leaders of 2 of the factions that I killed with the banshee and then run in with my troops, Undead forces are essentially expendable. I can revive them or gain more troops to replace the lost ones by reanimating the dead bodies of those whom i kill which makes playing as one of the Counts just awesome.
Things I really enjoy about the game,
- The Reanimation mechanic for the undead forces, Its really nifty to be able to revive and replenish some of your troops after a battle from the corpses of your enemies. It adds a whole new play style, plus undead forces dont run from battles so you can literally fight to the death. I had one battle where my faction leader was the last guy alive and i won and killed 2,200 enemies instantaneously.
- Beastmen roaming around the map, randomly attacking and killing factions add a lot to the game. Random events can happen you might move your armies away from a specific area because you assume that it is safe only to find that beastmen or rampaging orcs can come through and mess you up.
The gameplay is overall a nice change, im used to regular total war so having some cool magic abilites, and guns and magic in the same world just makes it all the more refreshing, total war games are always great, my favorites are now Total War Warhammer and Rome 1 and 2. I did not like Attila
