Retro Game Series
Series 1 Episode 5
Streets Of Rage - Megadrive
Welcome to my new series on Steemit. It is surrounding something i love to do as a hobbie and that is playing retro games from the old school games consoles which i played as a kid. I have managed to get a Gameboy emulator and a Sega Megadrive emulator on my Iphone along with a ton of games to play on these.
In this series i will be playing a variety of different games from the different consoles i have available to play and i will be doing a small review and scoring the games based on a scoring system i have compiled. This will then place the games into a league table so we can see what the ultimate retro game is out there.
I have put together a small league table to start with but with your help i will look to improve on this and add to it to put together a detailed and in depth chart for as many games as we can go through.
The categories i will be rating the game on are below:
Gameplay out of 10
Storyline/Career Mode out of 10
Controls out of 10
Visuals out of 10
Music out of 10
Enjoyment out of 50
Gameplay - I will be rating the gameplay of the game out of 10. This will be the ease, smoothness and how it is played in my opinion.
Storyline/Career Mode - I will be rating the Storyline/Career Mode out of 10. this will be the main game mode from the game.
Controls - I will be rating the controld out of 10. this will be the ease of the controls and wether or not you can do what you need to do with these.
Visuals - I will be rating the visuals out of 10. This will be what the graphics of the game are like.
Music - I will be rating the music from the game out of 10. This will be what the background music, sounds and chat are like withing the game.
Enjoyment - I will be rating the enjoyment out of 50. This will be in my opinion how much i enjoyed playing the game.
Good evening all, in todays episode of the Retro Game Series i will be playing Streets Of War on the Megadrive. this is a game which i have never played before and the first one from the series which is brand new to me. I was asked to review the game by @sv1rby so thank you for the recommendation.
The game itself reminded me of the old fashioned arcade games you used to play with a little joystick and a couple of red buttons. The aim of the game is to get as far through the levels as possible without losing your lives.
The game play for this game is not great but in a strange way, it is not the worst either. the aim is to work through the levels without losing your lives. You need to punch, kick, hit with weapons and throw enemies to kill them whilst trying to stop them from killing you. You start with 3 lives and can gain lives throughout by smashing barrels and finding and collecting them. 3/10
The storyline of the game is poor and a little boring but very addictive as you just want to beat your previous best. The only mode is to press start and play through the levels and see how far you can get. At the end of every level you have a boss to fight who gets harder and harder the further you get. 2/10
The controls for the game are very good and after a short while are very easy to get and use. you can move forward, backward, left and right, you can jump, punch and kick. After you get used to the buttons its quite simple. 5/10
The visuals on this game are good to be fair for this type of game. you can make out what everything is supposed to be. You can clearly see the weapons and what the enemies are carrying. the characters are not the greatest looking things but again you can make out what they are supposed to be. 4/10
the music on the game is one of the best ive seen so far in this series. It is not necessarily annoying on this but the fact that there is not much rates it down more than what it is. The sound effects are also good and relevant to the actions been performed. 4/10
In short, i didnt really enjoy playing this game to much. I personally was never a fan of the arcade style games and this is one of them. Its not the worst game ive played ever but not up their with my favorites. I probably wont play it again unless a new feature was to be introduced to this series. 25/50
Overall score - 43/100
Lets take a look at the scores from Episode 5 in the league table:

Thanks for reviewing this one :) I really love this game but I used to play it with 2 people.. I think that adds some fun :)
Yes shame I can’t do that with the emulator I’ve got, could see it would add more enjoyment to the game.
That’s why I’m doing this series so I can try and play games I’ve never seen before. If you want to keep suggesting games, feel free and I’ll try get though as many as I can.
