I played the heck out of the four player X-Men in a local arcade that had it set to $0.25 per play. The other arcade in town that had the two player model had it set to $0.50 per play. Loved that game. When I discovered MAME, X-Men was my first ROM download. A great game but oh so geared towards eating quarters.
Too bad this game didn't see release during the 16-Bit or 32-Bit era. I know we saw this game release on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 but by then it was not the same. I mean, the port was great from what I read but the "time had passed" was never truer than here.
I did try out Captain America and the Avengers on Sega Genesis but was not impressed. X-Men was just so much better in my eyes. Never got a chance to play the arcade original on this one though.
Oh x-men was so much better. You know I don't like the ps3 ports because they give you unlimited credits. It ruins it.
I was not aware that the PS3 version gave you unlimited continues. That is kind of what SNK did with their home "ports" for the Neo Geo. Kind of ruins the fun if you ask me. Course, with SNK, if you are spending $200+ for a game, I better damn well be able to continue as much as I want. Not so much for a $10, or so, PSN version of an arcade game. Not sure why it is different but it just feels like it should be different.
