Would You Support a Cryptocurrency Based Console?

in #gaming7 years ago

The question is a simple one but, the implementation is where it gets complicated. Simply put, would you support a console that mined cryptocurrency in the background/while not in use? I know I would. Who would not buy a console that is able to produce money just by owning it?

Imagine this, the console would obviously have to be geared towards key cryptocurrencies because of how they are mined. I understand enough to know there is a difference and that one setup cannot mine ALL cryptos available. There are limitations.

What if you could decide which to mine though? This could be handled at the time of ordering - do you want to mine say, Bitcoin and the coins using that protocol or do you prefer another?

Then we factor in the online store for this console. You would be able to use your earnings, or some or none, for purchases in the store. This could help you get more games at a discounted price, possibly free.

Of course to make the store work, the manufacturer would have to limit what coins could be mined and support them in the online store. This could be a turn off for most gamers as it would be possibly seen as censorship.

Me, I would buy such a console. I mean, I am surprised people making the "retro" knock off consoles have not yet done something like this already.

Who else is with me?

Man, that would be a cool idea. Earn coins by gaming. Seems especially good for indie games. Someone please do something wit this :)

Exactly. Imagine if devs could be incentivized by the manufacturer somehow? A console that pays the game publisher and developers and fans. Why is this not a thing yet?

Love the mockup. :D

I can't take credit for that, it is the RETRO Video Game System, a scam of a concept that some guy in California tried pawning onto the gaming community. I spent 14 months, or so, a few years ago exposing that sham.

Wow. I vaguely remember hearing about it under the Coleco branding. Looks like he's not had any better luck with that bit of nostalgia.

I'm amused that he was inspired to use the Jaguar casings based on that dental camera.

Yeah, there was a bit of fanfare over this thing when he was able to get Coleco behind it. Even then, it was viewed by most potential fans as "eh" at best. If you listen/read my interview with all three main team members you will hear/see that they were far from a cohesive, even literate at basic business, team.

This thing was doomed from the start. I remember quite well the heated arguments I had with game developers that attacked me for my coverage saying I was just a troll and that this thing was going to be better than sliced bread.

Once the fiasco was uncovered they deleted their tweets and social media comments at me and others. Tis okay as I have screen shots of it all. lol Never know when that stuff will come in handy.

This would be cool. What if they some how tied proof of work mining to online accomplishments (instead of trophies). For example, the number of kills in call of duty, or something like that.

That would be awesome. Maybe mining could be tied to their overall "score" on their profile and there could be separate trophies for reaching certain levels with the mining also? Give people incentive to mine, besides money.

I love the concept, but I am not sure if a console would have enough capacity to mine with any degree of success.

Wouldn't the difficulty of whatever coin be the deciding factor as far as mining capacity of the rig?

I mean, if someone did this, I could easily see, instead of XBox One S or X we would see support for new coins or improved mining capabilities (something we could tangibly see an improvement in our gaming lives with).

So, when do we start developing this? Maybe we should create a Viva mint for the

I would love to see someone do this. I figure it would be an emulation machine honestly. It would be awesome to see a new console that plays new games of various styles and genres.

Wouldn't it run into legal problems due to the emulation aspect?

I don't mean distributed with ROMs, more of a cartridge slot or something where original carts can be used. Similar to the Retron series. Still have it play original games though so there is more reason for gamers to buy into it.

deligious game and i like gaming my friend and very good post and keep it up
