So, Ports on the Switch, Many people are hating on Nintendo for putting Ports on the Switch when they, and I Quote...
"Could be Using the Time and Money to Make actual new games" - Everyone who complains about Ports on Switch.
But here's the thing, One, Ports Literally cost like Nothing, and take no time to make and Two, Ports from Large companies(Like Nintendo) Don't even Port the games themselves, Usually a Smaller Company is in charge of Ports, now for a Small Indie developer it's a Different Story, But for a Large Triple A Company like Nintendo, they just Pay a Smaller Company to do it for them.
Another thing is Ports on a New System can only be a good thing. It Adds variety to a System's Library, One of the Reasons why the Wii-U failed was lack of variety in it's Library of games...
"But what about Ports of Old Games? Shouldn't Ports be newer games, why are they wasting time on Old Games?" - Everyone who complains about Ports on Switch.
A Puppet who Talked about the Very same Topic said it better...
"When a Game is Good, it usually Stays good Forever" - Arlo, 2018 (Seriously, I know you are not going to see this, but Stay Awesome you Legend!)
Plus, you guys are also Begging the Switch Virtual Console, Which is Literally a Collection of Ports(Ports of Old Games Might I add).
Next, Skyrim and Dark Souls are Extremely Popular Games, not only will it Give the Switch more variety for everyone, it also Gives those Games more exposure to an Audience that Normally don't care about stuff on other Consoles or People who is just getting into games or People who just got Back into games and wanted an easy way to see what they missed.
Next, It can Give a Game Exposure if its a Port from a Failed Console....Like the Wii-U.
Final Point, Adding in these ports might even Attract an Audience that Nintendo did not Appeal to in the Past.
So overall, Ports can only be Good for the Switch, Plus its Still the Beginning of the Year, you cant say the Switch is only going to have Ports this year because of 1 Mini-Direct having mostly Ports.
Those are my Two Cents.
You are right, if a game did not did well enough on the Wii U despite being an awesome game, but with the sales of the Wii U being very poorly, it makes sense to move it on the Nintendo Switch since it will get more exposure... PLUS playing them on the go is a huge plus as well.^^ And more ports will expand more options of games to play on the Switch... which is quite a lot! Great post!^^
Hey nice article. I am really not sure what to think about ports.
First of all, I have no problem with ports at all, I also think they bring in some variety on games fast. But for me (and most gamers out there probably), I don't have just one console, mostly two newer systems like at the moment the PS4 and Switch. If I would have to choose to take a new port on the Switch or the same game for for example on the PS4 I would probably choose the PS4 version out of two reasons:
But I am absolutely for variety of games on new systems and there are people who would just probably go with one system, so ports have a right to be there, as long as new developments not get left behind. In the case for Skyrim I have to say, I am really annoyed about this game. I have played it on PS3 long ago, and nearly every year there are coming one or two new editions. Sure, the game is popular, but it is by far enough. They are milking the gamers with this game and people still buy it.
Dark Souls Remastered is something different. They don't have put out editions over editions in the last years, beside that they will overwork textures etc. if I am not mistaken, so it is something like new. I have played Dark Souls a lot and would probably like to play it in better graphic on the PS4. Still I wish they would have started with a Demon Souls Remastered as this would start from the beginning of the Series. :)
Yea. Personally im not a big fan of Skyrim or Darksouls. I can see the appeal in them but its not my cup of tea. but yea. I know a ton of people who prefer the portability of the switch versions. hell I myself prefer the portability over graphics. but thats just me. maybe its because I like having a console I can play while on the toilet. who knows? But yea. I respect you prefering graphics over portability. you do you.
Don't get me wrong, I love my Switch :) (even if I wouldn't play with it on the toilet :D)
I also think that the Switch is at the moment the best device out there, even if the graphics of PS4 is better, but I don't like how developers are acting with putting cheap ports on new devices, selling them for a full price game. If they would say, ok we make a port of Skyrim, but just take 25 Euro for it, because it's already an old game, I am fine with it. But selling it for 50-60€??? No thanks :/ Then I choose other games for the Switch over this, as I could easy get it for half the price of it on PS4.
Yea, that is mostly a Problem with the gaming Industry as a whole. but thats a Topic for a Future Blog.
