I never thought I would write these words. There is a new company entering the console wars. These days were done. You either got your xbox or your playstation or your switch and that was it. Unless you could afford an awesome PC. But those were your options. And it use to be only sega and nintendo consoles. Well now it is looking like Google wants in. And if any company can compete with the big boys it is Google.
There is not many details yet but it is looking like it will be a hardware system and it will probably be streaming. Streaming is the way to go. You can hook up a small google box and play any game you want online for a monthly fee. No longer having to drop $70 just to try a new title. There was doubts that the next playstation would be a streaming console and if this is the case then Google can beat them to the market. And if the hardware is cheap and the monthly service is priced well they could easily get their foot in the door.
It will come down to games. They will need to get the library to compete. But we are getting close to seeing the run for the Netflix of gaming and it looks like Google may be taking an early step.
It will be a great time for the gamers come next gaming cycle.

Ahhh, flashback to original PlayStation and some Twisted Metal 2 :-)
Hmmm don't get me wrong, i'm all in for more competitiveness in the consoles market because it generates innovation and forces companies to think outside of the box to beat up the other consoles but i'm not sure i want google winning on another front, further strengthening their monopoly on the tech industry, i'm split on this one.
"..but i'm not sure i want google winning on another front..."
Agree. Always, right?
Not to mention just one more way "Google can track whatever you do. "Alexa" is already a pretty potent voice recorder for the FED!!
Ahhhhh nice moves!
If you're fortunate enough to live in a country and locality that has decent internet, then maybe. But as someone who lives in Australia where the government believes that 25mbps is more than enough for every day Australian needs, streaming games will not work.
This isn't new territory either. Sony purchased a company called Gaikai that were building game streaming technology, specifically for high-end games. Sony rolled this into their Playstation Now service (which has issues).
Any form of gaming Google gets involved in won't be the likes of Playstation or XBOX level, it will probably be some streaming box running Android that can play games from the Google Play Store.
We also can't count Nintendo out because the Switch has been a runaway success getting first-party gaming titles as well as original Nintendo IP (Pokemon, Zelda, Splatoon).
We'll see though.

interesting idea, but it seems to me that the company google, wanted to have control over everything that is on the Internet, is a little abstract, but you can see it
What about a steam gaming system for your tv. That would make good sense to me/is already probably done. The problem with netflix type is bloody copyright laws between different countries, not sure if that would be such a problem with games but sure is with movies.
I have a massive issue with games streaming directly from the internet... while the whole thing is amazing and an exciting prospect and I would love it to happen... our internet in Australia is absolute filth, the fastest internet we can get is theoretically 100mbps actual speed is about 30mbps max. which would just not be good enough. and that makes me a sad panda!
