Retro Games Should Be Released With Online Capabilities

in #gaming7 years ago

Now that we can release old nintendo and super games for systems like the switch, I would like to see them released with the option to play online. I am not talking about adding a new multiplayer mode (though that would be cool) but just releasing the game as is with the option the play it with friends around the world. Sure it is not the same as couch co-op but having the ability to play old games online could bring new life to them.

You could have your pick from Battletoads, to Mario, to any of the beat 'em ups that got released for snes and sega. There are a lot of titles that you spent hours with a friend playing and lots of them that are still fun to play today. You could play old sports games or a puzzle game like tetris attack.

Then you have 64 with games like goldeneye and Mario kart. These are games that could really benefit from the use of online. Pick up a controller and play Mario Party with anyone around the world. I think it is time companies start to bringing back their classics with this spin. Maybe have like a monthly service with a large selection of games so you can pick and find a lobby.

Any one else in?

being able to do a run through of river city ransom would be sweet. like with a friend. but I did read, in the update about Nintendo charging for its online services for the switch, that they would in fact be rereleasing a lot of these games again with online capabilities. I think they even mentioned battle toads and Mario. here's the article https://www.nintendo.com/switch/online-service/nes/

lol I'm right it is time :p. Thanks for the link.

np, thanks for the quality content.

Am toally in. Would love to play Mario once again and race against time. And also the contra games, those are games that bring back wonderful memories from childhood

Interesting idea, although it would likely take a complete re-write of the game. By the time you handle the "internet->multi-player input" translator, you may as well.

Also, some of those games didn't age as well as you think they did...

I'm all for it! You can have online tournaments and the retro gaming comunity could stream from these services easier.

They wouldn't even have to charge for it, just put it on the same servers as your other normal games or p2p like hosting.

Including internet capabilities with these kind of retro games can open a whole new world of possibilities.

Can hardly wait to play golden eye online or mario party. Thank you for sharing thoughts!

comparto tu propuesta.. pero mi hijo me dice que ya lo pasado, pasado.. y tenemos que adaptarnos a lo nuevo.. para evolucionar...

Completely agree. For now I just use netplay with ZSNES to play with friends oversea's.

You know I never did beat Battletoads. That was one of the few games on my list I still have yet to beat.

There's definitly something special to being local in the same room with people playing games - something that's increasingly being lost on today's generation. However, now that retro gamers like us are older and spread out living our adult lives, this would be a great way to re-connect and enjoy some classic multiplayer!

I love Mario kart, it's one of my favorites games ever, ir would ve insane if we could have ir with online gaming.

The original Super Mario Bros. game from the old Nintendo online.

would be like Flappy bird online.

Crazy
and
cool
