In Streets of Rage 2, only Skate can perform running and vertical-dodge move but in this series, this move has been added to other characters. Then, the damage that is caused by the player's attacks is fewer than that of its predecessors. A power meter is installed to replace the level timer. There are some traps that were adopted from Streets of Rage. The players can throw the enemies into off the side of an elevator or pits. The artificial intelligence of the enemies has been updated, so they can use weapons, performing defensive, employing team attack, and even regaining the health by stealing exposed food items.
