Gardening like an idiot! Part 1.

in #garden7 years ago

Welcome everyone

In times of bear markets , pumps and dumps and all other crypto related things , we need to relax once in a while.
Today I want to share something different than usual. Something I like to do. Something I need to do.
Gardening.

2 Months ago my girlfriend and I moved to our new house. One of things I really love is the garden.
It’s not a small one so it takes a lot of my time to maintain it. I have absolutely no experience so I really suck at it. But I’m here to learn. Is that not the reason why we are here? To learn? I think so.

Let’s take a look.

As you can see I have 2 lawns. One in the front and one in the back. So I regularly need to mow the grass this time of the year. It takes quite a lot of time to do it. Maybe 2 hours. I bought the most cheapest lawnmower so that did not help me out either. Next time I’m going to buy something decent. It just takes too much time.

I also have quite a bit of flowers in my garden!

Looks good doesn’t it?
That’s because I had nothing to do with it. My family-in-law made this happen.
They planted it and put some bark (is that the word in English?) on the ground to counter the evil weeds!
My job is just to maintain it.

A few weeks later this happened.
enter image description here My sunflowers! My precious….
They don’t look good.
What happened? Snails. It was an invasion and I was too late to save them. But I’m wondering…do they grow back? I have no idea. I cut off some of the dead leaves but that’s it. Do I need to do anything more? Someone knows?

Okay. Next. My favorite! Growing vegetables and fruit!
My dad and I planted spinach , cauliflower , celery and carrots.
I don’t have pictures of the cauliflower. Because…well they’re dead. Snails again.

Look at my spinach! Raaawrr!!

I feel like Popeye! Me and my girlfriend have already eaten our home grown spinach several times and we are not dead yet! So think this is a success! It do takes a lot of time to prepare and cook it though. But it’s all free and healthy!

Celery!

My 6 plants have grown a lot and look ready to harvest!

My carrots.

At first I thought they would not make it but as you see they look good.
I’m looking forward to harvest them.

We also have strawberries.

Yummy! They were already there when we bought the house so that was a nice surprise.

Last week I planted cucumbers (seeds).

I followed the instructions and planted 2 seeds in one hole. In total about 4 holes. In time you need to remover the weaker plant of the 2. I’m really excited to see how they grow. Some of them did not make it. But it’s always a good idea to plant several seeds because not all of them will make it through the end.

I think this is enough for part 1. I need to cut some weeds! See you next time!

joking apart, gardening is great therapy and the sense of achievement when you eat your home grown food is unbeatable!its @papa-d0zer you need an new account mate for gardening !

Getting your own place with gf. Big step in life and I wish you both every happiness and success....are we expecting any @baby-d0zer anytime soon mate ? ;-)

We're not expecting a baby d0zer yet. Not that I know of. :) But I think it will not be much longer though.
And indeed it's a big step. But I'm more happier than ever!

Nice post. Laughed out loud at the last disclaimer. "DISCLAIMER: THIS IS NOT GARDENING ADVICE AND I AM NOT A GARDENING EXPERT. DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH. FOLLOWING MY GARDEN ADVICE MAY GET YOU KILLED."

My wife's the garden nut between the two of us. I'm kinda glad. I help her with the heavy lifting every now and then, but outside of the crypto space I love to do woodworking. I find that a man needs to dirty his hands every now and then. It keeps me healthy and balanced. Can't be staring at charts and screens all day. Cheers

Indeed. Nothing much is happening right now in cryptoworld so we need to find other things to waste our time. :-)

Enjoyed this post. Actually, in a similar boat myself. Got a big book on Permaculture but now just have to make time to read it! Glad to be following you, it makes me feel ok.

I plan on doing a random gardening post in times of dips, here in SW France.

love the gardening disclaimer.

I'm a fig tree nut, i have over 150 trees. I will at some point make another account for just gardening, waiting to be verified for it.

I need to finish cleaning my yard and make it nice before i can take photos though, the place is a mess and I just had a squirrel incident the other day, so a pressure washing is needed!!!

Love it, keep it up!

good work..and I appreciate your support..following and upvoting..
