I noticed this ladybug. I wonder why they call it a ladybug. I mean is there such a thing as a male ladybug?
OK, I just looked it up. Yes, there are male ladybugs. Doesn't that sound weird that there are male ladybugs?
Maybe, I just like to play with words. Like there is no chicken in chicken fried steaks and there is no ham in hamburger.
OK, back to the ladybugs. They are very useful for the garden and I remember some years ago buying a package of ladybugs for the garden at a hardware store.
I think it cost me about $3.99 for a small container of them. If you have aphids then you would want some ladybugs in your garden as they eat aphids.
I just read that one ladybug can eat 5,000 aphids in its lifetime.
I remember a friend of mine bought a package of ladybugs for her garden. She told me that she let them out of the package in broad daylight and they flew to her neighbors yard.
My friend was kind of angry that she paid for these ladybugs, but they did not have any immediate benefit to her garden.
Well, she still might get benefit as the children of those ladybugs released might happen to come to her garden after the mating season.
Later I find that it is better to let them go at night and under a bush so the ladybugs are more likely to stay in your garden since it is harder for them to see at night.
I haven't bought ladybugs in a long time. Maybe the one in the picture is from a distant generation of the ladybugs that I bought for the garden years ago.
In any case I am glad to see this ladybug whether it be male or female they are always good to have in the garden.
