Last Summer I experimented with scything and have founds it so useful even after the new lawn mower was brought I have carried it on. it has hidden advantages like the insects can get out of your way instead of you rushing them down with a motor mower you can just wait for them to move on. The grass grows and recovers much better, and your fitness sky rockets after a few weeks.
Expect to collapse in exhaustion after the first few goes that was my experience then you get a better wind and stamina.
I made several videos with my phone one morning in the garden of what I am doing. It is now nearly winter here and cold, as it has been rainy I will likely carry on scything as not to have wheel marks on the lawn.
