Callirhoe involucrata is also known as poppy-mallow or winecups, and if God has a hand in all language perhaps He wanted us to associate these beautiful cherry-red to purplish-red blooms with the delicateness of poppies, the luxuriousness of winecups, and maybe the delectability of marshmallows.
C. involucrata is a variable native from North Dakota to Texas, with sprawling stems and vibrant flowers that appear in summer.
In his encyclopedia, The New York Botanical Garden Illustrated Encyclopedia of Horticulture, T. H. Everett calls C. involucrata “a garden favorite.”
