Chicory

in #garden5 years ago

Chicory, Cichorum intybus, is a common roadside weed widely naturalized in North America. Why would God want this particular plant to be so ubiquitous? Perhaps a meditation upon seeing the plant will yield individual answers.

Chicory is native to Europe. Nectar and pollen are available to fauna in the US. Flowers close during the day unless skies are cloudy.

Chicory is in the aster family. It withstands drought well. It also withstands alkaline conditions and road salt better than most plants. It likes soil with some gravel.
