Garden Herb Sun Tea

in #garden8 years ago

When it comes to true teas (black, white green), I am not one to consume much of those. I do however love my own garden grown herbal infusion blends ("teas") and am always experimenting with them.

I usually make my herbal infusions in a vintage silver tea pot and it never occurred to me until yesterday that I could make it like a sun tea as I do with Mr. Rain's black tea.

The blend I made here is Lamb's Ear, Pansy, Marshmallow Leaf, and catnip flowers.

After brewing many hours in the sun, I added some of my homemade vanilla extract (see how I make mine here: https://steemit.com/howto/@raincountry/how-to-make-vanilla-extract)
and heated some of it up in my tea pot for my nightly cup of hot tea:

Today, I am drinking it iced.

Hot or cold, it is delightful and I love knowing all the health and body healing benefits I am getting from these herbs. I plan to brew up another blend today, I am thinking it will be mojito mint, rose petal, marshmallow, and lamb's ear.

Just like my salads, creating a colorful, tasty, and health packed drink right from my own garden is incredibly satisfying as it appeals to my artistic side, gives me a feeling of accomplishment knowing I grew these wonderful things myself, and I revel in the amount of money I saved on being able to enjoy something that would cost a small fortune in a health food store - if such a blend like this could even be found.

I do not have one out yet on the marshmallow plant, but I promise, it is coming!

I truly hope you all have a blessed day and thank you so much for taking your time ~Heidi

The gifts from the creator blesses our body and souls, resteemit!

I love LOVE making sun tea! I've got probably four half-gallons in the fridge right now, all different flavors. One I experimented with yesterday was yerba mate, a cinnamon stick, and stevia--but it looked nowhere as beautiful as yours did while brewing. :) Can't wait to get some going with actual plants from our land.

Of course, it did take me some time to carefully arrange the flowers so all the pretty colors would show for the photo! haha

Shalom sister Heidi.

Lemon balm would be so refreshing in your sun tea.
Also I didn't know you could safely ingest lamb's ear.
I LOVE coming here and learning new things and it looks like lamb's ear will a another addition to an ever growing list of herbs I'll be adding to my garden..

Your loving sister in Christ.

Lamb's ear has a very wonderful taste as a tea, plus it has many medicinal properties, some of which I list in the post linked in this one about the lamb's ear.

Yes, I do enjoy lemon balm in my tea from time to time but I am always mixing it up and trying something new :)

This is beautiful and awesome

IT just looks so pretty. I would be interested to learn how you make your own vanilla extract. What a great post. UPVOTED. Thanks

I read your post here to my wife just now as she is driving & she liked it. She is wanting to do this.

These infusions sound delightful, especially with the vanilla infusion added.

Happy Monday!

i used to love making sun tea! i'd make a big batch in the morning first thing and put it in the frig as soon as i could and then enjoy it the rest of the day. quite often i'd add some sprigs of mint i had growing at the backdoor for a little extra zip 😉 but never thought to adding anything else. thanks for the idea 😎

that looks so yummy with the ice in it-learning a lot from you thats awesome!

Wow! I wouldn't know where to start! Did you grow these with the purpose of teas in mind or did you find them growing wild?

I started growing the Lamb's Ear, the catnip, and the marshmallow for their medicinal and health properties, the pansies I started growing because I knew they were edible and looked beautiful in salads, then I learned they had a great number of health properties as well :D

WOW!!!
I love Herbal Teas!!
