The garden keeps on giving

in #garden7 years ago

Even though we don't do too much work on our garden it still provides for us. The raspberry canes have been very productive. All I really do is cut them down to the ground at the end of the season and they come back the next year. Not all the plants seem to have berries, but there are plenty of them.

Raspberries

The apple trees have been good too. These eaters are great, but the tree does need a prune. Our cooking apple tree has been good too, but we give most of them away. I just put a basket by the gate and people take some. This picker is handy to get the higher apples.

Apples

Some of our strawberries are trying to produce a second crop, but I'm not sure they will ripen. I'm trying a plastic bottle to warm them up a little.

Strawberries

Of course the chickens provide all year round, but we'll get less eggs in the winter. We just have to feed them and clean them out. We buy sacks of mash and then they get a few treats such as cracked grains or dried mealworms. They do peck at the fallen apples and we try them with various kitchen waste, but that doesn't fill them up. The peck at the grass and various weeds when we let them out to wander. There are four, but one was elsewhere. They provide enough eggs for us and the neighbour. If there were more it would be hard to keep track of them in the garden.

Chickens

We'be had other stuff from the garden this year, but we keep trying to do more. The neighbour and I do it between us.

This genuinely inspires me to do more with our garden. It's the right time of year to plant garlic and hoping that like raspberries, they just grow (I am the worst gardener ever...I kill evergreens and even desert plants).

I hope to have raspberries in this spring along with some blackberries. The trees will be a little while before I start them. Love how you sit apples at the gate for people to take, it forms a good community and helps others out. Great Job!

I'm happy to share our produce. There's far too much for us. We give away rhubarb and plums too.

What an excellent harvest. I have a "repair" strawberry, it blooms even now, sometimes we find it under snow.

I believe this is your best post on the garden. I can't wait until next year. We have a small greenhouse .. @nowian.man is growing succulents right now..of course, they are not edible. Well again I enjoyed your post .. you get 3 chickens on this one..since one was wandering lol 🐓 🐓🐓

Haha..This is so heartwarming. All the plants and trees are characters doing their own thing to please their owner..!

I too have a small backyard and this inspired me to fulfill my gardening dreams. Its just difficult to give it much time, especially in these days of fast moving technologies and cryptos.

Always glued to the screen to gather more and more information about the cold, emotionless world of software, this post was really soothing.:)

are you planning to expand? like buy ducks or any other animals

I think we have enough animals for now. Just need to organise the garden to be productive

Good activity @steevc, in the shape of gardening and poultry(chicken farming) sweet productions like Raspberries and apples very fit for health, apples in basket you placed for other peoples show your generosity. And the chickens also used for their eggs and also meat so they are very useful for us,.your photography is awsome .
Steem on!

We don't eat our chickens, or any meat. I think you exaggerate my photography skills. I appreciate honesty more that flattery

But in our country chickens are used in different dishes,.

Here too, but not in our house

That is great that you allow people to take apples i know someone that would have a person jailed for even looking at their apple tree lol

so you have a good enough garden and contain rasbery, apple and strawbery which is nursing by yourself. more than followed with chicken laid to egg. total year package in the garden!

We have plenty of space. There is too much to do for us

Awesome post! Thank you for sharing this and I'll have profit from your experiences and tips. I'm growing strawberries ( even though I don't have a garden) and I was planning to start growing raspberries as well and your post was also helpful in terms of reminding and inspiring me since I've left this idea aside.

It's better now. Sorry, but I get too many that don't appear to have read the post
